Club cricket is still very much alive....we played a 40 overs match last weekend and there's a limited overs tournament this coming weekend....the winter months are generally the tournament months. It helps keep the kids in form for when the leauge starts again in August / September....
Every weekend you find clubs looking for matches....this is Youth cricket obviously....the junior cricket has officially ended....thats under 10s till under 13s.

The youth cricket is one helluva step up from under 13s....like going from junior school to high school. I think they play through to under 19s in Youth cricket. And then its senior cricket...which is more social.

Terrible news coming from Dale College this weekend. Their first team lock passed away after sustaining a head injury during play. Earlier in the week one of their kids was killed in a hit and run accident too.

I watched on and off yestereday. Enjoyed the Paul Roos - Garsfontein match. The PR no.13 Jurenzo Julius is something else. Here is a highlight of him from the match against Bishops. The lad is a beast.

False Bay played Durbell yesterday and the Currie Cup clash between Zim Goshawks and Boland was part of a double header at the club yesterday. It was an awesome day and a brilliant idea to tie a club fixture to Currie Cup game. There was great attendance and a shit ton of beer consumed.

My eldest worked his way into Milnerton 14a hockey after a late start. He is goal keeper. Last week they beat Rondebosch. Today the B team asked him to keep and they beat Paarl Gym. Stoked. Tomorrow he keeps for the A team vs Constantia

Siya Kolisi for instance was a bursary boy at Grey High in Port Elizabeth. Cheslin Kolbe went to a fee paying state school that woudn't be considered a rugby powerhouse - Brackenfell. Makazole Mapimpi went to a state school where fees are not charged - ie free.

Cheers! And what would the fees be? Boarding obviously factors in, but ‘fee paying state’ is not something we have here. Either full independent or public. But I worked in a Catholic school in Oz that required just a fee of less than half the 10-20k that’s often the norm here.

Edit… I see about 40k Rand. That’s not too bad considering independent schools I worked for here in Canada charge 15-25k / year.

My kids went to both these schools. Paul Roos biggest catchment area is Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Northern suburbs. They have 1200 boys and only 300 boarders.

Paarl Gim have 500 boys 700 girls and 900 boarders. Their catchment area is Paarl , Northern suburbs and everywhere from SA.

The big midfielder from Paul Roos scoring the winning try is from Namibia.

Both schools have a very strong rugby culture and about 20 rugby teams in total.

Your fees is about right.
