The final chapter of The Microphones project from Phil Elverum - a 45 minute recount of the last 20 years of his life.

Gripping yet sparce, it tells a great story

Think I posted that earlier in the thread somewhere last summer.

Thought for a minute he'd released volume 2!

I thought it was excellent, although I'm a big fan of Elverum's work so probably pre programmed to like it.

Apologies if repost. Yeah he is all class.

I've been trying to unearth post-hardcore bands that live up to the genre tag recently as there still seems to be altogether to many Dance Gavin Dance clones being far too visible.

Along the way I found these guys who remind me of early He Is Legend and Hot Damn! era Every Time I Die plus that whole period between about 2005 - 2009 when various -core bands started smushing their sound with southern rock. Possibly something for you, Nipper?

More typical post-hardcore fare discovered on my Spotify deep dives.

Nothing I'm afraid. Jeez really like the American Slang sound, that is quintessential He Is Legend from the 2000s

Yeah, good stuff. They get extra props for incorporating a harmonica.

Nominee are another good emo-punk crew

They released a new single today, though there doesn't seem to be a video I can link. Not crazy about the vocal mix, but it's a solid track.

Yours Truly also dropped a reasonable effort. They're probably more on the pop-punk spectrum.

It's Bandcamp Friday.

I've bought a couple of albums by the Ship Thieves, who are the side project band of Chris Wollard from Hot Water Music.

I picked up the new Racoon City album that released today

Grabbed last year's State Faults EP

Cherry picked the better tracks of We Were Sharks latest album

Filled the discography gaps for Young Mountain

Wanted to buy Arlo Wells' EP, but they haven't put it up on bandcamp yet. Can only stream it via all the main platforms, not purchase. Seems a weird choice, but they're a really small up and coming band, so perhaps it's not worth it for them to pay bandcamp's fee (when it's not bandcamp Friday obvs) however small it is.

I like that.

I've been trying to track down a N.African/ME Funk thing I heard a while ago and I have nothing to go on except a scrap of melody that I can just about remember - it's a frustrating pursuit.
The Tuareg guitar rock sound is excellent. There’s quite a few decent bands putting stuff out...

And good luck trying to track down that scrap of sound, I’ve been there and it can take years😂😂

Would you believe I've found it?

Cerys Mattews mentioned a German label called Habibi Funk on her show this morning and it sounded like a good clue. The very first track I clicked on their bandcamp site was the song I'd been after.

You guys might also like some old Ethiopian stuff. This is my favourite album from the Ethiopiques series:

Bandcamp Friday again.

I bought a new-ish Get Up Kids album, because I listened to them an awful lot when I was 20 or so.

The new album from Low just released.

This track has to be contender for track of the year

Can't say I'm particularly au fait with their discography, but I have heard some of their stuff before. That's got a lot more melody in it than I remember them having. it stacks up with wristmeetrazor, Thirty Nights Of Violence and a few other bands reviving that style of metalcore.

That is pretty good. They've gone drone-y (in a good way)? The last album I have of theirs is The Great Destroyer and I haven't really kept up with them since.

Their last 2 albums have been in this vein, really shows how the great bands can stay great even with a tweak or 2 during their careers

Real bummer. I have Voice of America and The Crackdown on LP and would grab an affordable copy of Red Mecca in a heartbeat. From early 80's yet still sounds so fresh.

New track from Youth Fountain

Doesn't sound like they've missed a beat despite losing a co-vocalist since the last record. Looking forward to the new one dropping in November.

Which then leads to the side project - Gunship

Proof that there is not enough saxophone in music nowadays.

Yeah, they're pretty bogan. Works for me.

Albums can be a little patchy imo, but they do churn out some cracking tracks.

In fact, I've snaffled a chunk of their back catalogue off Bandcamp now.
