Actually mate, I was saying same before season started, mainly I thought over last few years we hadn't used a real high skill level in super.. Mind you after Crusaders/Chiefs game last night a man is pretty happy with the quality of that! That was a bloody good game by 2 very good teams.

Need it to get a bit colder and wetter for the Saders to shine.

Still wishy washy rugby though... just nowhere near the same intensity at the breakdown. If super sides aren't doing it, can the All Blacks switch to a more aggressive breakdown mindset when they play teams like England, Ireland, France and SA? They couldn't last year... so something has to change... and it's not changing at super rugby level... so Foster, over to you.. gulp...

It was a top-notch match that the Chiefs took by the scruff of the neck in the last 20 mins and, such was their dominance over that period, deservedly won. The Crusaders also had a number if players out — at least 6 from their usual 23: Jager, McCallister, Williams, Barrett, Dunshea and Drummond (plus Moody during the match).

Found it bloody inetersting watching Breakdown, and hearing Goldies take on things. He pointed out that SH teams are going to ground more than NH teams, ie the cleaners etc in NH drive upwards as they come into breakdon area and clear the players well past the area, leaving a space for the attcak etc following through to exploit.

I need to watch the Breakdown... seeing as it's the name of the show... I think they should spend more time on this area... I know the end of last year they pointed out (like us) that it was a huge area of concern for the All Blacks...

I think it's easier to clear upwards because there are generally more players involved at the breakdown in European rugby. You really have to compete to secure your own ball... only in the last few minutes did I see any proper breakdown intensity in the Crusaders v Chiefs match... keep playing like this and it will be a rude awakening again when the All blacks play a decent side...

Edit - seen the Breakdown now. Good to see them focusing on the breakdown difference between north and south... Goldie is right, no need to target the guy lying on the ground... but I think the bad habit is lack of numbers at the breakdown is facilitating this as well... there often is only players on the ground to compete against...

Interesting O'Keefe saying the Six Nations is much faster this year even compared to last year... so it's modern breakdown warfare.. fast and target standing players.. and numbers at the breakdown... so will NZ adapt?

Under Foster? Unlikely. He seems convinced that razzle dazzle, sevens rugby is the answer to everything.

The NH teams will be licking their chops if we keep playing like that.

Well, I guess with the intensity the Chiefs have shown for the entire 80 the last few games, a blow out was on the cards.

Man the Drua are a lot of fun. If they had a vaguely competent line out they would have won that game by a distance. Great to watch though, really adds to the tournament.

Agreed. The two Pacific teams add a lot to the comp, even if Pacifika are a bit weaker. I feel Super Rugby is finally comfortable in its own skin. Good schedules, good sides, good code.

59-12 wasn't ideal for Pasifika tonight but the Chiefs are looking a vintage side.

I'm worried... watching Super Rugby is like watching rugby from at least ten years ago... I remember when we used to lead the world... what we did, everyone else tried to copy... now we look stuck in a time warp... and I'm not sure what it will take to wake it up...a mediocre All Blacks team most likely...
