Boxing thread
People get way too polarised on Joshua. It was a good solid performance against an opponent who had only lost to Fury who stopped Wilder 5 months later. Wallin isn't a top 5 heavyweight so it isn't an indicator Joshua is ready to beat the top 2 in the division but it was a better performance from him. Both can be true.
Lots of people online flip flopping opinion on heavyweights. It was only two fights ago people were questioning whether Zhang had it after losing to Hrgovic (neither looked amazing no matter what way the result went). Now he's seen as a big threat after beating Joyce who also split opinion.

Tyson Fury just needs to do the decent thing and properly retire. The latest postponement is so utterly predictable and looks dodgy as fuck. His sparing partners elbow must be like a precision cutting instrument to inflict such a cut with headgear on.
Hard to believe you could fake a cut like that.Blackmac wrote: Sat Feb 03, 2024 9:50 am Tyson Fury just needs to do the decent thing and properly retire. It's been a while since we had a meaningful heavyweight title fight, let alone a unification bout.
Hope these guys eventually get it on.
You would think so but certainly lots of speculation about it. The video of it happening looks very suspect, especially given the style of headgear he is wearing. That area looks very well protected.Gumboot wrote: Sat Feb 03, 2024 11:06 amHard to believe you could fake a cut like that.Blackmac wrote: Sat Feb 03, 2024 9:50 am Tyson Fury just needs to do the decent thing and properly retire. Jesus christ. What was the ref doing letting that go after the 2nd knock down. Ngannou was clearly done and all the ref did was line him up.for AJ to belt him.
Ngannou played a stulid game in that 1st round by changing stance and won a stupid prize.

Yep. Absolute joke of a sport these days, although hopefully he still has enough to spark that idiot.Tichtheid wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2024 9:51 am I see Tyson is returning to the ring, again, fighting some YouTuber guy. He’s expected to earn in excess of $10M for it.
What a “sport”.

It's a pity he fights so rarely. He can only have fought 4 or 5 times in the last 4 years.sefton wrote: Sun May 12, 2024 1:41 pm Watch Loma in the early hours, as ever it was a joy to watch him. Not to be too pessimistic but I've a feeling this Fury-Usyk fight will be a damp squib.
I hope I am proven wrong because I am certainly looking forward to it, its just their respective styles look like they will not be conducive to a fun fight. Both technically too good.

Breaking my flounce to say how relieved I am by that result. I had a horrible feeling it was going to be like Holyfield-Lewis I, and if Fury ended the fight on his feet he'd get the decision.
Usyk won that, regardless of the knockdown and potential stoppage that could have been. I'm just very happy fury got shown up, hopefully all the talk of him being in the conversation for the GOAT can now go away, as he's not even the best British heavyweight of all time, never mind the outright GOAT.
If there's a rematch I'll be surprised, but it depends how quick 100 mil spends - could see him taking on all comers in 5 years if needs be.
Usyk is the premier heavyweight of this era and the pound for pound king of the moment.

Rematch will happen as it is in the contract for this fight, so an October rematch looks on the cards....Usyk will still win and likely by KO this time, he is a very smart boxer and will have learned loads, Fury on the other hand doesn't have the tools in the box to beat a fighter like Usyk
Yes, he took a shellacking. I'd not seen Cacace before but I was surprised at how one-sided it was.TedMaul wrote: Mon May 20, 2024 7:43 am Incidentally having not watched the card I was a bit disappointed that Cordina lost, was it as one sided as the reports make out?
I think Usyk is better and clearly won the fight but I agree with that. Fury was up on 2 of 3 score cards going into the 9th and had hurt Usyk in the earlier rounds. Furys corner, particularly his old man did him no favours at all IMO. I don't think Fury would leave himself that open in a rematch.ASMO wrote: Sun May 19, 2024 9:04 amWelcome backCrash669 wrote: Sun May 19, 2024 12:04 am Breaking my flounce to say how relieved I am by that result. I expect Usyk to win the rematch fairly comfortably but I don't think it would be a shock if Fury won a close points decision.
If I were Usyk, I'd beat Fury again then retire. Get out after 23 pro fights with oodles of money and all his faculties in tact.

I used to be a huge fan of boxing, but not so much now. I've always thought it would be good idea to get a few mates round to watch and share the cost, make a night of it, take turns hosting etc.
