I think AM could stir things up a bit with a couple of wins this weekend

I have a gut feeling they will smash it - the race, not the boat

Good early win for Prada. I think they're going to need it, Yanks punching 53 knot and doubting themselves. They're going to have to have a good chat about shedding the nerves and chucking everything at the remaining races.

Luna Rossa absolutely creamed AM in RAce 1. 53knots is almost 100kph.

Agreed - it was like a little old lady driving the yacht - fast enough on the straights but very timid turns.

This is almost a walkover - 2 minute lead with 2 legs to go

Yanks go airborne again.

Easy win #2 to Luna Rossa

Some pretty obvious control issues there for the Yanks. Same spot same result everytime. Be a late night for that crew.

Looking like semis could be over tomorrow. Although it sounds like wrong choice for main sail, and a bit tentative for AM will have contributed to the result.

Tradesman like from Prada. No flashy shit just get the job done. Good effort from them to stitch their processes together.
You have to assume the Yanks are done here now.

Yep, looks like they're toast.

I know zero about sailing - is Spithall just a better sailor than Barker?

Faster boat wins. Prada have had their problems but stitching the crew work to work tighter has seen improvement.
Americans fucked now, foil arm control issues and they aren't coming back from this. Pretty disappointing from them but a lot of it out of their control having a busted boat.

Hard luck for the Yanks, December they were Top dog a few weeks later and they're cooked. 3+ years of getting it together to finish last in 7 races and a DNF with the boat heading for the bottom. Disaster.

Is it really as simple as faster boat wins? Looked to me like Luna Rossa gained big advantages by outsmarting AM at every start.

Yeah jeez. That’s a lot of money burnt for the yanks.

I hope they keep this class of boats running for a series so that AM doesn’t just become scrap after so little time on the water.

Kind of felt they should have installed upgrades while ripping it apart. They needed to roll the dice.

Pom meeja talking themselves up big time. Going to thrash Prada, then Benny boy is apparently too good to lose to ETNZ.

We shall see!.

Best you beat the Italians before bigging yourself up against TNZ.

I don't take much interest in Sailing - but the Americas cup is something special - I remember the excitement, in the 80s, when the USA were 1st beaten. It's been a very long time since the UK had a serious challenger - so this time it's more interesting for us. Ben Ainsley is a bit of a legend in the UK, even for those of us who know nothing about the sport.

The boats they are using look more like spaceships - amazing pieces of engineering.

Looking forward to the series against Prada - should be a close run thing. Hoep we can make it to become the Challenger and give NZ a run for their money.

It was from an interview with Peter de Savary which the NZ Herald is requoting.

I've been following it and even stayed up to watch a few races love on youtube - I just hadn't noticed any coverage in any mainstream media.

Ah, that name is a blast from the past. Apparently it's an interview in the Times but I can only find reference to it in the NZ Herald.

Why do we have to listen to that annoying Italian idiot in leading the press conferences? Leave out the dragged out eerrrrrrrrrrrr ehhhhhhh euuuuhhhh thanks.

Speaking of which, I’d much rather hear the spitbull in the pressers on the other end.

I assume once it becomes America’s Cup this will change.

Anyway, on the race, the worm has turned again. This competition is freaken incredible in this sense. Other technology races you never see such a difference in a week. In formula one it’s generally dominance for a year. But in this world it’s merely days to a couple of weeks.

Disappointing start to the series, going 2 nil down :shh: - hope Sir Ben can fight back with some fresher winds. Got his work cut out for him now but still some way to go.

There’s plenty of time left in this series. Plenty of opportunities, etc.

Must admit I thought they might have out the boat out on the water a bit more to try their mods, given the time they had up their sleeve. If not to get some practice in, then to review components performance outside of a simulator

Pretty good show from Prada, they'd really been looking middle of the road, kind of not in or out the whole time. Solid but not spectacular. They're looking very very smooth out there yesterday.

The challengers leap frogging each other.

Think it was initially AM the fastest looking boat in the practice sessions pre the works series.

Then LR.

Then Ineos.

Now LR.

That sort of competition has clearly accelerated development cycles.

I wonder if we’ve kept up??

And a huge bellyflop from Ainslie sees him lose the start to race 4 as well
