That brought us down to earth with a bump.

As the Irish commentator says, an Irish under 11 team would have beaten them.

I'm not going to take anything away from Ireland. Well done lads, I hope you enjoy the win. You played well, but we're past red lights for SA. We are in deep shit.

You'll probably spank us in the 3rd ODI; but we took a huge step toward getting into the World Cup today, & the value to the confidence of the players is immeasurable

Verreynne dropped a couple and missed a stumping.

Miller, Rabada and Markram all dropped reasonably easy chances..

What is the name of the commentator? By Christ, he was hard on the ears.

SA lose to Ireland, then Pakistan lose through equally bad fielding.

Catches win matches.

Our captain was pretty useless. Win the toss, not batting first with two spinners, bat like shit.

Proteas need Kamp Staaldraad.

I think they'll take 1-1-1 from the series as a great result.

I thought we'd lose today by 90+, & am only pissed I couldn't get to the game, as its going to be a beautiful warm & sunny weekend here. Rumor has it the spectators were able to take off their duffel coats.

Slow bowlers doing the job - Saffers have a few of those, wouldn't make too many predictions at this stage.

Yes, it does really depend on whether the Irish sloggers can connect.

Van der Dussen lofts a half volley to mid off.

4 down.

Miller can't seem to get the ball off the square.

He seems to be trying to hit the ball too hard.

Linde is another batsman with a reputation for big hitting who can't get the ball off the square.

The South African batsmen treating that renowned International spinner Stirling with caution.

The problem, I guess, is that there are only rabbits left in the hutch.

Rabada lofts the ball between 3 Irish fielders who watch it roll over the rope, each waiting for the other to pick it up.

Maybe him and Miller should get some batting tips from Rabada.

164 probably about 40 runs short.

Singh feels that anything under 170 should be well within their range.

That's peaking?

The last wicket pair made 44 runs in 6 overs unbroken. The number 11 doubled his highest score against us.

We were lucky.

The Irish had planned (according to Singh in the change-of-innings interview) to use the powerplay to bring the RRR down to six an over or less and then knock off the runs in easy singles, twos and the occasional risk-free boundary.

Unfortunately for them, it didn't come off with the loss of Stirling second ball and 3 others in the powerplay, which pegged them back, but I am far from convinced that it was a dominant performance.

We dropped at least two sitters, too.

Although Ireland were above us in the table, they are a second tier Nation, and they really shouldn't be running us this close. Certainly, on this showing, I can't see any of the big boys being too worried about playing us.

Ended up watching the end of the first match of The Hundred today. Must say I'm pleasantly surprised. Pretty indistinguishable product from T20 on the pitch, seemed to be engaging the kids in the stands. Still have some significant reservations but not a bad start. Will watch some more.

2 wickets in the first over for Ireland, Markram and de Kok departing in short order. Miller and Van Der Dussen the last 2 batsmen at the crease.
