I have a certain level of sympathy for them. Like much of the continent, Covid probably isn't the biggest concern for them, it probably comes behind hunger and crime.

Social distancing sure. You can't social distance in a township or on a taxi, but wearing a mask takes zero effort. Just enduring some discomfort.
Seems shortsighted to purposefully introduce another survival risk into your life that is already riddled with risks and challenges.

Oh I totally agree. Just the mask wearing would make a difference.

I swear the security guard at my work has been wearing the same mask since March 2020. It was probably ground zero for the 3rd wave.

A question for the guys on here. Initially it was two shots Pfizer or one shot J&J. They're talking about a third shot for Pfizer now and a booster shot for J&J after 7 months.

What happens when we are told we need to do this every year? I'm fine with the two shots Pfizer and would even be okay with a third shot but I don't want this to become an annual thing.

My boss got the J&J shot and was sick afterwards. Nothing serious just flu like symptoms. Thing is he never gets sick and is already complaining that he was healthy before getting vaccinated and now he's sick. He says he wont go again.

Booked my second AZ shot for next week. All online now and lots of places to chose from. Kenya finally getting its act together.

Finally we have plenty of vaccines in Kenya and you can chose from Moderna, AZ, J&J and Pfizer.
Just need it to get into the rural areas and tackle the hesitancy from the population.

Second shot done and dusted. The nurse administering the shot was quite vocal about me keeping my proof of vaccination safe, because of restrictions coming for those who aren't getting the shots.

They're already selling fake vac certificates in Marabastad

There were also 2,640 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to date to 2,860,835
Of the new cases, 864 were in the Eastern Cape and 601 were in KwaZulu-Natal. No other province passed the 500 mark for new daily infections, with the Free State recording 258, the Western Cape recording 240 and the Northern Cape recording 229. Gauteng recorded just 150 new infections.
The number of people now in hospital with Covid-19 related illnesses was also close to dropping to fewer than 10,000. This after there were 163 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of people admitted to 10,140.

AJ it's obvious that you,ll need extra vaccines. It' work like that for yellow fewer aswell. The more you get the less chance you have to get sick.

The variant change, so the vaccines must change aswell.

Any Saffers with kids 12-18? My youngest is 17 and looks like they're next. I'm going to get her done asap with Pfizer. Looks like they're trying to get Sinovac approved for the kids but as pro-vaccine as I am, still have a lingering doubt of Chinese medicine. I don't doubt its safety because it has been used extensively on a global basis. But she's hoping to go overseas on vac and I don't know how well received the Sinovac vacc would be. Plus its still in Phase 3 of trials.

I agree but not everyone feels that way. For vaccines to be successful you need large scale buy in or it's useless to even try.

Well in that case we will probably need a booster shot yearly for some time to come. Once empirical evidence comes through from countries with a near 100% vaccination rate that eradicate the virus, maybe then the idiots will start to listen, but until then the likes of PANDATA will continue to spread blatant misinformation, and cost many their lives

I have a great solution at work...we only have 1 staff member who is an ardent anti vaxxer.....the other one ended up on a ventilater and is still not back at work...

My staff work more than 2 metres apart so I allow them to work without their masks at their workstations....the anti vaxxer has to wear his mask all day irrespective....lets see how long he holds out......

Were you forced to accept the bioNTec/Pfizer vac? I'm sceptical that boosters in South Africa will be offered to the general public but rather will be offered to the elderly, immunocompromised and people who work in hospitals/health care. But yeah, maybe that should not happen because you don't agree, right?

It will become mandatory whether we like it or not. If not by government decree then companies/schools/institution will demand it. If it was made mandatory from the get go we would not need to discuss booster shots.

The company I work for gives you the day off for your first shot but for any follow ups you'll have to book annual leave.

If she's not part of the sinovac trail the chance that she will be offered the sinovac is very, very remote. If she's turning 18 soon that chance goes down to zero. The sinovac should be well received in countries that are using it, others, not so much

Yep, been doing some reading since my last post. The older one was part of the Jansen trial as a health science student. Be good for the whole fam to have had it done. My nephew has just been sent home from Kearsney after an outbreak. He's had it already though. The virus not the jab.

my 2nd jab is coming up on Friday, I have the Pfizer one. I agree that the foreseeable future we will most likely to get a booster shot on a yearly basis. The latest studies seem to show that natural immunity only last about 6 months after a person has been exposed, so it seems like the body does not develop immunity well enough to fight the mutations at this point. So the antivaxxers that think their body will naturally build up a defense against the virus in the short term might be unpleasantly surprised. But over the years antivaxxers never take in account that the only reason they might not need to get vaccinated was because for other diseases the large scale vaccination programs is what killed off those illnesses and helped achieve the herd immunity and if the majority of people did not vaccinate that a lot of those diseases would still be around that have been eradicated in most countries.

I am glad social media was not around in the 50's to 80's because if it was, just image the uproar for all the jabs we used to get when i was a kid, illnesses like Polio, Yellow Fever, Poks, etc would most likely still be widely spread if it was up to our modern social media generation, even in my early 20's we still needed vaccine passports to travel to several countries. Karen on Facebook and Jimmy on Twitter would have had a heart attack if they had to take all those jabs in those days.
