It really does look like as this was him a few years ago. He's been a career politician since uni, I think, and always looked the dweeb. Now he's trying to go for suave and buff.

Easter Sunday.

Everyone has their own way of doing it, but I like the simplicity of this. I just diced an onion and softened it in a little oil along with cubed Aberdeen Angus shoulder. Once it was all nicely browned I dusted it all with plain flour and poured in a bottle of Guinness original, I added a stock cube a a couple of dashes of Worcestershire sauce and a shake from the mixed herbs jar. That's it, oh apart from a little salt and pepper.

160 degrees for three to four hours and it's done, I usually add a load of mushrooms for the last 10 minutes or so.

Serve with mash and steamed broccoli.

The stew is actually better if cooked on the Saturday but I didn't get around to it.

Also shows that they probably would have won the presidential election last year and kicked out Erdoğan if they had managed to pick a vaguely decent candidate. Either one of the two high profile city mayors, İmamoğlu in Istanbul and Yavaş in Ankara, would have done the job probably.

That's a hard yes from me.

I first noticed this as an issue back around 2010 or so when a certain type of headlight on a particular light truck model appeared... the headlight was designed to throw an intense beam which looked like high beam coming at you. Since then LED lighting has taken over and the designers seem to be striving for some sort of 'spread at range' effect. As the criver of a current model, I appreciate the power of my headlights but I'm also painfully aware of their effect on traffic, as I am struggling to deal with it coming at me. I commute daily on a delightful coastal road that twists and turns for 30km or so, mainly at highway speeds. My shift times mean for at least half the year I am driving in the darkness... and it's not fun.

Early Thursday morning, I had a mild heart attack, no massive pains or sweating or the like, but a general feeling of my chest being squeezed. So I drove to the ER and was shuffled straight into the operating room for a 2.5 hour op using catheter. They inserted three stents and I am able to sit up and eat now. I should be moving to a regular ward sometime tomorrow but they recommend a two-week stay. I did not keel over from crippling pain or anything dramatic and actually drove myself to the hospital but it was a heart attack all the same. They bunged three stents in and reckon I will be moving from the ICU to a regular ward tomorrow afternoon.

It was a fucking shock, I can tell you that but the weirdest thing it the mental battle going on inside my head between the part of me that is saying “you had heart surgery, about the worst surgery you can have” and the positive optimistic part of me that is saying “no scars, no full anaesthetic, so maybe it isn’t that serious”.

Luckily, the former part is winning the battle. I’m feeling pretty good now.

The only scar I have is a tiny incision on my wrist where they inserted the catheter. Absolutely amazing
