Bar Benezema's five minute mayhem, have to say Switzerland were much the better side. Thrown the tournament wide open.

These posts are weird, dude, he was magnificent. Best French player by a mile.
Agree on the second bit, he was sublime tonight. He’s one of those players that frustrates a lot of people because he doesn’t look like he cares. There was a really good article in the ST a couple of weeks ago with friends, family, teams mates etc singing his praises but the comments section was Man U season ticket holders saying he was an empty jersey.

To be perfectly honest im a little split bit he was great tonight

He had a flash of brilliance with a magnificent goal but was far too passive for large periods of the game. He’s a brilliant player when he applies himself but tonight spent a lot of time just walking around about the 20 yard area.

Not every player is a box-to-box midfielder. Kante can't do the things Pogba can, and vice versa. Did you think Pirlo was shit? Pogba controlled midfield and put in pass after pass of the highest quality, won a decent amount of ball, scored a worldie, and looked a class above everyone else.

You can see his touch map here: https://en.as.com/resultados/futbol/eur ... adisticas/ - he was all over the place, tracking back, picking up balls off the defence then putting in pinpoint long passes, getting involved in the centre, getting involved in attack...

You wouldn't say Xhaka was lazy but he and Pogba touched the ball the same amount of times, and Pogba made more key passes, had more shots, and made the same number of tackles.

Though on the ITV coverage... not only Roy Keane and Gary Neville panned Pogpa last night but also Patrick Viera... Viera even suggesting Pogpa needs a Roy Keane type player alongside him to kick him up the arse during games...

Pogba scored a great goal but it's very disrespectful to do a stupid arrogant dance like that after scoring!

I really look at the two teams and think England, across the board, are the better side. But I can't bring myself to call us favourites. Not sure where it will go wrong but no doubt it will.

The England band being allowed back in is a distressing touch.

Yeah. That energy-sapping Wembley pitch plus the band = 90 minutes of frustration, tedium, and disappointment

I know the old Wembley was energy sapping for players... but is that the case with the new one? And what causes it? Type of grass?

And also whoever plays with him at Man Utd... as they said Man Utd need that sort of player too... to get the most out of Pogpa.. I could see Keane lacing up his boots as Viera spoke.. :lolno:

Are they? I only watch Champions League and International, but the only positions England have better players are central defenders and striker. 3 out of 11.

I don't know if it's a physical or psychological thing. England games at Wembley do seem to go that way, and I would happily say it's just them, but the other teams who've played at Wembley in this tournament have also produced turgid, slow passing performances. Maybe it is the grass, who knows.

Just a bit of a meh stadium. Nothing wrong with it but would never go out of my way to attend a match there, and I live a few stops down the Met Line from it. Suspect atmosphere will be decent tonight, but the band will do their best to kill it with multiple renditions of the Great Escape theme.

If we are to win, let the winner be scored by Sterling or Rashford. I love the smell of boiled gammon piss in the morning.

Pretty comfortable win that. Sterling backed up a very good performance against the Czechs with a fantastic one here. Saka really good. Midfield bullied the Germans.

If Harry Kane wasn't so off the pace that could've been a real statement win. Yeah I know he scored but pretty much any player in the squad would've scored that - he was lazy and sluggish all game, and even at the end when all it would take was some effort and pressing to ensure the win he couldn't be bothered. Somethings very wrong with him and he's a total lead weight.

To be fair even former England players are saying those two were close to not even make the bench recently.

But klarse is permanent, etc

Also to be fair, Sterling was excellent and Kane was fucking shite again. Just because he scored a goal which saw him jog forward and head into the net, doesn't mean he wasn't absolutely godawful and a real handbrake on England.

Yes, remarkable how the national sport, which is wildly popular across the globe, continues to grip the nation after beating Germany in the knockout stages for the first time in over 50 years. Don't they know some people don't like football?!

That Wembley pitch was like sand again... everyone looked so slow tonight. In the second game Ukraine were zipping the ball around like it was on a string... but England v Germany was like watching a video at 3/4 speed...

It's obsessional levels in the media. You would think that it's 99.9999999oii% listening to the coverage, even for the non England/Scotland/Welsh matches. It's ridiculous overkill

Southgate gets some stick for being conservative but this team would be absolutely cruising in this tournament if Kane was in any sort of form whatsoever.
