Italy do get ridden by the refs but yet again they have failed to execute their opportunities and yet again it has stopped them winning a game they should have won

I'm not sure they get ridden as hard as people like to say. Because they are the underdog and won 1 6N game in 40 or whatever it is people focus on what goes against them rather than looking at what goes for them sometimes.

That's a cruel blow that adds real gloss to a poor Scottish performance.
Italy... they need to go on a bootcamp with the Crusaders or something. Their handling and decision making when in scoring positions is costing them dearly.

Italy missing so many chances. Normally a single player with blood rush to head.
At least they generate the chances now and haven't dropped off with the subs like they used to. Italy need a couple of really fast wingers to compliment the injured full back so they take the chances.

Italy are just a hairs breadth from being a side that gets 2 or 3 wins with regularity in the 6 N . Decision making and red zone execution need to be fixed.

I think that answers any questions about how important Russell is to us. Kinghorn didn't have a bad game, but he just doesn't provide the options that Russell will look for in many situations. Also missed Hogg and Russell's kicking variety. I thought our backs looked very nervous and a couple of the forwards, Gray and Watson just didn't turn up. Really thought the Italians had us there.

It looks like Kinghorn hasn't spent much time at 10 in training which is odd.
If he is the back up 10 for Scotland then he has to play there every week and not shifted if anyone is injured.

This is really not paying for Italy. They just need to alternate their game a bit more to get the other side honest.

Over this 6Ns i think they are very competitive. What they lack is any pace on the wings and fullback if whippet is injured. They should be putting chances away.

Ultimately I think there are positives for both Scotland and Italy even though both would expect a better performance today.
Italy will think they could have won and Scotland picked up a bonus point win by having a big defensive stand and were missing 5 definite starters.
Both can loom forward to their next squad meet up optimisistic about some things.

Welsh still whining it was deliberate And the reason Berry has to look at it is because he's a terrible ref. Spiritual heir to Ayoub.

Ref said he knocked it forward from arm to head.
I’d say he was wrong on that.
Still, penalty from scrum is a good result in the end.
