Bangladesh won by 6 wickets (with 5 balls remaining) and a series win, their first against NZ

Not sure Cole McConchie is going to look back at this match with fondness - 3 ball duck and 1/34 where the next highest runs given was 25 off 4.

Judging by the difficulty of the chase on this minefield of a pitch - NZ weren't actually far off a competitive score. But one bowler shipping 10 an over......not great. Although Latham missing the dead to rights stumping wasn't helpful.

I reckon the Barmy Army enjoy it. Everyone likes a pantomine villain and so long as they take it back no dramas. It's why I can't stand the Aussie side - give it out in spades but turn into shrinking violets when it gets pointed out they're a bunch of cheats.

FFS Kohli was having a bit of harmless fun, that’s still allowed, I think. Would love to know what the pommie journo who was so offended though of several England players (including I think broad and Anderson) urinating on the same Oval pitch while being cheered on by their teammates.

Linde very unlucky to miss out. Now, I rate Maharaj, but how poor was our planning that we are now selecting a player for the World Cup who has played no International T20 yet. If we wanted to pick Kev, play him to get some international experience.

Bizarre.

Might be a goer as England only have six home tests next summer instead of the usual seven.

You just know the ECB will bottle claiming the forfeit when India throw their toys out the pram, and that all Indian players will be ready for the IPL.

Really really pathetic stuff, couple of mates of mine are pulling into Piccadilly right now having come up from Devon - assume the ECB will offer them nothing for that.

Team manager Shastri and 2 physios tested positive, the coaching team are in isolation
Sounds like the Indian players made the call. The IPL start in 10 days, surely that has nothing to do with the playerrs decision

I suspect the ECB would like to know as well considering they will have made a whacking great loss due to the last minute cancellation

Since there has been a covid19 outbreak in their camp I seriously doubt there are grounds for claiming a forfeit. Not saying the decision to call of the match wasn't a bit of opportunism though

Different situation as I assume there's not been an agreement prior to now, but rugby games have been forfeited on a regular basis by the team with Covid in the camp.

Either way, the player's tests were negative and we are now post vaccine rollout. I really hope we aren't going to be cancelling sports fixtures in the same way we would understandably have been a year ago after a couple of covid cases.

Happy to be corrected but I think there was a prior agreement that any of the cricket tests could be cancelled if there was a covid19 outbreak.

Fully agree with your second paragraph

From the BBC's Jonathan Agnew

This is quite bizarre because last night the players all passed their PCR tests. We went to bed thinking the match would go ahead.

I suspect the IPL would have a lot to do with this. It starts in 10 days' time. The players are on huge contacts. The IPL is worth £300m to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

They are desperate to protect their product and the players protect their contracts. This stands to cost the ECB £20m, one assumes there would be some negotiations about that with the BCCI.

The statement from the ECB confirming that India had pulled out of the game initially stated that they had forfeited the match. This bit has been amended quietly, and now just says that India were unable to field a team. We'll have to see what result is confirmed eventually (and whether the BCCI compensate the ECB for their losses).

Is the accusation that the Indian players don’t really want to play because they want a bit of rest before the IPL, or that they don’t want to risk getting COVID and being banned? Not being disingenuous, just not following
