Some US networks now reporting the US fatalities rising to 10.
Clearly a huge blast and exactly what had been feared given the chaotic security situation at the airport.
Edit - At least 60 people killed and 140 injured according to health officials.
Unconfirmed reports of at least 11 dead US Marines plus 1 Naval Corpsman, with at least 30 wounded with10 or more critical.

Figure of twelve so far has been confirmed by the Pentagon.

The Corpsman no doubt treating the casualties from the 1st blast.
Well ISIS have neatly shown the US & UK Public, exactly why the fuck Biden is withdrawing the troops; & how the people still claiming Afghanistan can somehow be rescued; can shove their fucking idiocy where the sun don't shine !

Utter carnage, feel for everyone caught up in it.
Strikes me that the evacuation will slow to a trickle now, carnage is only going to get worse, real potential for a total breakdown and the Americans to leave without telling the paras. If I was Boris I’d get anyone out we can tomorrow, knock it on the head and piss off

Yep. Get out while you can. Who knows what's going to go down there. For all we know the Taliban are going to at each others throats in days, the place degenerating into a civil war zone. Or they'll start their moral cleansing once the deadline is officially done on the 31st.

I'm just a bloke on the internet but it strikes me that our chances of getting out meaningful numbers of people are drastically reduced whilst the chances of the paras being caught in a modern day Dien Bien Phu situation rise all the time

We are entirely dependant on Taleban cooperation to safely withdraw, they control all of the ground around the airport and could bring airliners down with ease using their ANA allies trained new Taleban recruits and acquired US state of the art hardware

What is the basic story here?
As I understand it, the Trump government setb the date for the withdrawal of troops and negotiated the withdrawal with both the Afghan government and the Taliban.
The Biden administration put the agreement into practice, albeit very badly.
Once the coalition troops left en mass the Taliban simply took control of Afghanistan again.
And now we sit with this mess

Drump dealt with the Taliban directly, and excluded the Afghan Government from the negotiations.
Released 5,000 Taliban prisoners.
Ran down the US army to 2,500 all before he left office.
Refused to brief the incoming administration on the situation.

The cherry on the cake; last night on NBC they mentioned that the taliban chief in charge of the airport perimeter security has/had a $5 million bounty on his head for having close ties with isis k.

Getting pretty tired about the hysteria regarding the ex marine who seems to have hung around to the extreme last minute demanding all the staff and animals at his animal sanctuary are evacuated.
Are they prioritising animals over people?
1) It is a sideshow but he appears to keep praising Boris and so it's free party political broadcast time for the clowns who helped create this disaster.
2) I doubt it's hampering anything.
3) AFAIK, they hired their own aircraft and so they can take what they like aboard. Note that several official rescue flights came out of Kabul with f**k all anyone on board and seems to be little questioning that.

Ooh, it's better than that. No-one appears to be questioning just how much weaponry the Taliban has got for Xmas at the US tax payers' expense. Expect to see some of that put to "good use" in the not too distant future.

Pulling the last troops out is going to be a delicate operation - presumably the yanks will have to be last out as they probably are the only ones with enough helicopters to get everyone out with the runway overwhelmed.

A defense official said that there is space aboard C-17 cargo jets for the last troops but that some equipment and aircrafts will probably be left
An airstrike to destroy that equipment is likely, he said. The Pentagon acknowledged that F-18 warplanes, operating from an aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, patrol above Kabul
well the talibs may know that also, I bet you they’ll open the airport for thousands of civilians as a human shield

Firstly, apologies, it was a slight typo, the figure I saw was 28. In saying that they are now up to 190 killed so I expect it’s higher than that.
I saw it on BBC and The Times, I’ll try and find the link but it was this morning

I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts; that these shitheads are counting all the equipment the US gave to the afghan forces, & police; as military equipment given to the Taliban.
As the line goes; "Never fired, & only dropped once !"; that's the equipment these douchebags are talking about.

The Sunday papers seem to be full of articles about Raab's cack handed management of the FO.
He's going to struggle to survive; when we start to hear about the murders of people who should have been evacuated; but because he pulled out the FO staff who would process their applications; they got left behind !
It isn't just about his laziness, & selfishness of pissing off on holiday at the start of a crisis; & not returning when it was bleeding obvious it was a crisis; Its the staggering ineptitude of his management of this crucial part of the evacuation process.

Not only did he leave his Afghan staff behind, and threaten to ‘destroy’ the FO staff given the unenviable task of trying to assist the entitled twat, the likelihood is that most of the animals will have to put down when they arrive here.

The Taliban have to play ball with the west as they basically don't want to be hit by western sanctions etc..this is basically the most positive, optimistic thing you can say about the whole situation..but basically who knows what they will do.
This all started when the US decided to create and encourage mentalist regionlist sects to go fight the godless atheist Soviet union, and they encouraged and funded every religionist extremist in the region from wasabism to the mojahideen and dozens more.
Guess what, a complete withdrawal and a let them get on with it, don't give them anyone to fight or be angry at, until they settle down..attitude, is the only way to go.
