Not sure if being whooshed here: but before they brought in the 2nd prop replacement and increased number on the bench it was always 16 Hooker and 17 replacement prop.
So they just added an additional prop replacement at 18 and pushed every one after that up one number.

That is what has prevented me from buying one for years. I'm an infrequent Garageband user, the free Win "equivalents" are rubbish so I use it on the ipad, I can't justify that outlay on the chance that I'd use it more and more, though the ability to use my audio interface makes it more attractive.
I'm stuck between analogue and digital, I rip CDs to itunes but I have a Spotify account. I still use vinyl and read books, so my steam-driven HP laptop which has seen three kids through A levels is still my portal to t'internet.
The kids all have Macbook pros, but they are heavy-duty users studying art or doing post-grad stuff, so there is some justification for them
otoh, aren't similarly-spec (and finished) Windows machines in the same ballpark price-wise?

It had a 125k dial up modem, 1.6MB hard drive and 16k memory installed, running Windows 95.
I had my online number as one of my "friends and family" numbers with BT, that meant I could dial up at the weekend for a pound a minute and download Usenet groups and the Open University stuff for the course I was doing.
You had to spend a lot of time in a Group chat on the phone to Gateway's call centre in Dublin where the techs would go around in a circle and sort out everyone's problems one by one, they were very good these techs.
The active speakers that came with the Gateway were really good, they lasted until a few years ago and paired with a decent sub they had a HUGE sound.
I guess my point is that my Gateway desktop was very much entry level, but cost around about what the premium models do now

One of the guys I worked with was upgrading from a 486, so he sold me his motherboard and processor and I built my own.
Does anyone remember CIX? Did we really pay 500 quid a year for access?

I used to drink with the founder of Gateway! Ex US Navy radio operator, always with a buzz cut, he bought the Fleur de Lys in Dorchester on Thames, got his English friends to run it and I used to sort the cellar out for him till they learnt the ropes. When he sold Gateway, he came in the pub looking like Kris Kristofferson!..
Really nice bloke and his wife lost 20 years once the surgeons helped spend his bounty...

A Shmoo was exactly the action you describe. The guys who did this were despised and almost impossible to catch.
French team was small enough not to do this shite but depending on call levels in UK market you could end up with one of these to try and fix (with happy customers on the line).

Well if he’d been in the England football team in 1938, I expect he would have done the same as his team mates.
It’s also a bit rich expecting Beckham to be some sort of moral arbiter when FIFA have decided to hold the World Cup there and as far as I know, no Country has yet suggested they will be boycotting the tournament. So as it stands, he’s simply promoting the World Cup.

They were a large customer of mine in Dublin back in the '90s. Their reception was full of chairs in Friesian cow leather - very strange looking.
