Huw Jones and Duhan vd Merwe would have been great for the Springboks
Oof. I know EM-M isn't much of a scrummager but still
Good luck England
Congrats SA, well below par but still had enough to win by 17 points. Scotland, well, too many self inflicted injuries and some bad luck, but ultimately a decent showing and they'll take plenty of positives.

Not so sure. As a team they were very poor, playing about 10 minutes of decent rugby in the last 10 minutes of the game. Very lucky Scotland did not take advantage of it the way Argentina did. Lots and lots of work to do before next week. I actually did not enjoy this win, just feel relieved that we somehow won.

Odd game. Scotland fronted up well and had their moments - they won’t have many better chances to beat a team of SA’s calibre. SA were sloppy throughout but their power game was just too much. Russell was anonymous, Ridley, well, his performance was unsurprising to any regular observer of the English Prem.
SA are there for the taking at Twickenham this week if we match them physically, cut out the handling errors, don’t miss 33 tackles and Hendrikse is allowed 80 minutes at 9 for them

AE for England.
He had blown the penalty whilst our pack was going backwards but still legal. It was going to be a penalty anyway but you could see his mindset and that is poor refereeing.Tichtheid wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 5:59 pmthe SA loosehead steps round, drives off straight and the try comes from that.

I rewound it and it looked to me that the Loosehead stepped left immediately, which he's not allowed to do, that is what turned the scrum. The ref awarded the penalty against Scotland

Its going to be De Alende and Kriel next week. Few of the starters today will start next week I think. Libbok might just miss out next week because Hendrickse was so bad today

DDA is better equipped to handle and exploit the rush defence.bok_viking wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:07 pmIts going to be De Alende and Kriel next week. Few of the starters today will start next week I think. Libbok might just miss out next week because Hendrickse was so bad today![]()

And hopefully that is our customary couple of bad games a year out of the way now

Yes I think so as well. England's rush defense is a bit out of sorts, there often seem to be a gap between the inside and outside defense in the last two games. They do not always come up in a line and leave a gap on the angle. So DDA and Kriel might be able to expose that (If they play better next weekJM2K6 wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:07 pmDDA is better equipped to handle and exploit the rush defence.bok_viking wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:07 pmIts going to be De Alende and Kriel next week. I drink and I forget things.
Decent showing by Scotland but ultimately we'll beaten.
Pleasing that GT looked for alternative ways to get at SA having previously been deblvoid of ideas. Getting the ball away from 9 and 10 and attacking at 13 and outside was where we should always look to play against bigger teams.

Moodie got a high rating which I am not convinced about. He really does look off. Am is just not interested. Had a chance and blew it for me.
Please don't let Libboks absence indicate that he starts next week . Kolisi looks distracted. Our lineout is s mess

Agreed. Lineout was terrible. AE and Wiilie were our best backs, the rest were pedestrian.Sards wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:43 pm Moodie got a high rating which I am not convinced about. He really does look off. Am is just not interested. Had a chance and blew it for me.

Would love to see the outstanding GPS Bokke starts against their team mates. AE, Tank, Wiese and Pollard.bok_viking wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:07 pmIts going to be De Alende and Kriel next week. Had a lovely day at the game despite the result.
Chatted with loads of Saffers in town before the game and at the stadium which was cool. All very complimentary about our team and country and literally everyone I spoke with said, unprompted, that Huw Jones is the best centre in the world at the moment. In saying that, you do have by a distance the largest quotient of dickheads by percentage amongst your supporters when they have had a drink.
Absolutely no one in the stadium saw the red card coming.
I also had a chat with Bryan Habana, which was nice

Actually, believe it or not, that wasn’t mentioned by anyone I spoke with. Jones isn’t the best centre if he passes into touch every time. #spiteSlick wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:50 pmActually, believe it or not, that wasn’t mentioned by anyone I spoke with. Right
Needed a drink after the game, just in
The red card. Fucking hell. It wasn’t Cummings, it was Darge. They reviewed it and escalated the punishment for the wrong prayer. Absolute bunch of clowns for that. Also, Darge found himself in the position where he was going to roll tha player back on his leg, so he released the player and made himself go sideways so he wasn’t forcing the player down onto his own leg. Etzebeth then throws himself on the ground and rolls around like a wee girl
SA got a deserved yellow in the second half. 90 seconds later a saffer ( I think it was psdt) went offside and tackled the scrum half. Deliberate and cynical, and the ref bottled what should have been another yellow, purely because he’d given one less than two minutes before. Absolute bullshit. At that point in the game we had rattled South Africa, and playing against 13 at that point might have changed the result.
I understand that in these games we have to blood young refs to develop the ones who will be at the next World Cup, but this guy was so far out of his depth that he was looking up at giant squid that can’t see light. And he was badly let down by his TMO team.
Another ref, that would have been a fantastic game. I don’t think we would have won, but it would have been closed and we would all have been raving about how it was a great game of rugby

And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
That’s what we all said after the final whistle. That was a good game, but with a competent ref it would have been a great game.charltom wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 12:02 am It was a great game of rugby.
Ruined by officials, but still a great game.
We probably still wouldn’t have won, but it would have been a terrific game.

Oh, and the thing I haven’t mentioned yet is the penalty given away by SA immediately under their post. It was a deliberate and cynical penalty in a try scoring position. But the ref didn’t give a yellow card, because he’d given on 90 seconds previously. An experienced ref wouldn’t have been scared of that, and would have put SA down to thirteen. That was the point they were at their most rattled, with abrasive throwing his toys about on the big screen in the stadium. We would have scored again against thirteen from that point.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

Law trial query 1:
Is the TMO Protocol trial that was active in the summer being used in the Autumn Nations Series? There is no mention of it in the ANS press release on law trials.
Disallowed try for Scotland went back 3 phases which is outwith current Protocol but not the trial Protocol.

Law trial query 2:
Is the simplified red card sanction process active for the Autumn games? It was part of the package for other trials of the 20 minute red card but no mention of it in the ANS press release on law trials.
If it is then I think Cummings is looking at an automatic 2-week ban. If it's the normal sanctioning then I'd expect only a 1-week ban - if they uphold the red.

Yeah my son and I were like, but it was Darge? Just strange all round. It's also a bit ironic/funny that you said it was Etsebeth rolling around on the ground like a wee girl, when in fact it was Mostert. What is it with you NH'ers...Biffer wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 11:40 pm Right

On a more serious note, Mostert just returned from long injury (broken leg), so I'm sure the accident of Darge falling on it whilst being bend was not that great an experience.
