We'll probably need a total of at least 450 in this first dig to stay competitive...

Damn it. Ireland were going well; & now they've lost a few wickets; & lost their rhythm. Now the RR is 8.8 with 10 overs to go :(

Ireland lose by 24 runs

Bowling got just a little loose & after bowling superbly initially; they coughed up too many boundaries.

Still; a decent performance against a tier 1 side.

Latham brings up a very good 50.

Not a bad recovery after being given out LBW twice in one over.

92-0 at lunch after being put in. You would take that.

I don’t think I have ever seen a 7 before. And a 5 soon after.

Will Young brings up his third successive 50 of the series. He's playing the anchor role of an opener very well so far.

I'll claim the rights to that Latham ton. I commented on his average as captain in his last innings so the mockers Gods lifted a finger in his direction

NZ 349/1 at stumps with Latham on 186* and Conway on 99*

Can't complain too much I suppose.

Conway, Malan, Labuschagne can work in the Protea batting line up.

200 up for Latham. Black mark for running out Conway on 109 though.

Is this Taylor's last innings?

Taylor chips it to square leg departs to a solid round of applause. Likely to be his last test innings if our bowlers step up

Latham gets a life. Could we see something special today?

Gees, Latham has been lucky this innings (thankfully) - huge leading edge is caught but pops out of the bowlers hands when he hits the turf.

That's lunch 74/4 session so maybe the pitch is OK to bowl on if you do it right

Might want to declare soon, especially with rain a possibility in the latter days on the test.

The Empire Strikes Back.

^^^ I happened to catch Sri Lanka's first ever test match, in Colombo v. England earlyish 1982.
The locals did OK for a day and a bit but then ....

The above was the memorable heading in the next day's newspaper.
