Hey Oom I don't think anyone's gonna argue that class isn't permanent but uh how much class is in that England team? Maybe 3 players right now? 4 if you consider Woakes a home-grounds specialist?
6 players add Broad and its 7.
We are England's bitches in tests. Haven't won a test series since 19 voertsek.
7?!
Root. Stokes. Maybe Bairstow (who is playing well right now, but averages mid-30s). Anderson. Broad. Who else is class?
There are 7 still playing tests. Can't be kak of they still play test cricket since January 2020

I don't know what you mean. Anderson and Broad are absolute class, no doubt. I am assuming they'll play against SA.
That leaves us picking 9 from:
Lees (average 4), Crawley (avg 27), Root (49), Lawrence (26), Stokes (36 bat / 32 ball), Bairstow (35 but in form), Foakes (32), Woakes (27 bat / 30 ball), Overton (33 ball), Wood (31 ball), Leach (32 ball)
Those numbers do not scream class for the majority of players, and instead scream "not cut out for Test cricket" for a chunk of them.

This is pretty funny, Oom.
Crawley is the definition of form, not class. Form meant he scored a big innings. Class means he averages 27 in Test cricket
Wood averages 40 with the ball in England.
Bairstow averages 34 with the bat in 44 matches in England.
Very strange definition of class!

We might lack a few star players, but Smith, Boucher, Elgar and Bavuma have at least moulded us into a unit that won't back down and will fight for everything.
That's all we can ask for.

Ultimately what we need also. We're stuck with quite a few players who don't look up to it and aren't willing to fight...

As shown by... West Indies scoring more runs than England? South Africa beating NZ in NZ? South Africa having higher batting averages? confused by this a little

Ja lucky you.
No not averages and stats.
We needed a lh quick like Jansen to bring variation with Rabada and Nortje. Also think Maharaj is a good spinner.
The low scoring tests vs India & Black Caps haven't convince me on our batting.

Well that was delightfully expected.
64 ahead - no real demons in the pitch - 6 sessions remaining......this has draw written all over it.

These two getting a hurry on.
With Crawley and Root there I reckon England might fancy getting a 200 - 250 odd lead by the end of the day and maybe have 2 and half - 3 sessions at WI?
Poised nicely.
