Agreed. The last couple of tests have gone into the final session of the final day. Are we going to end up with umpires leading the players off with a result still possible?

They walked them off on the final day of the last Ashes test a few years ago with England needing 30 odd & 5 overs or so remaining.

It was 2013; England needed 21 from 24 balls with 5 wickets remaining. After 5 days of play. It’s jaw dropping that any official would decide at that point to end the game because floodlights are taking over from natural light. 15 minutes it would have taken to give the fans a fitting end to the game & the series.

Yes it’s a bit of a farce. At the very least the Umps should offer the option to bowling sides of a few overs of spin. There’s no way you could expect anyone to face Archer or Wood if they can’t see the ball very well.

That’s what they did a few years ago before they started using the lights. It made very little difference having a few overs of spin at 6pm.

What will help is if they start early the following morning to make up lost overs. Especially this series as they only need to get the teams up early. It’s ridiculous they can’t start before 10:30

Half an hour in the morning under decent light would mean more than the same time under lights at the end of the day.

Either way, great day of cricket again. Borad having a laugh with the bat, then he and Jimmy showed why they are top class. Archer was just nasty to play on a slow wicket, and Woakes will always do a job with the ball.

Windies have fought well, but their batters have never given their knackered bowlers a chance to play two innings

It is. I read that teams practicing with the white ball are having difficulty seeing that against the empty seats at the Aegis Bowl.

They should start earlier, really.

So will Root declare this session? Windies are very unlikely to make 350+ in the fourth innings, so I hope England have a slog and get 20 minutes at them before bad light ends play. Tomorrow seems almost certain to be washed out.

Lead is now 371. There is realistically no chance, even if the forecast is wrong, that the Windies chase this down. The only possible reason to delay is so that the ball is as close to new on Tuesday morning as possible

Monday’s looking like a write-off and Tuesday’s a bit uncertain atmo. If England get the best part of a day they might do this. It’s been a great series for climaxes; let’s hope that trend continues.

Fingers crossed they get a full afternoon, could be a nervy finish.

Good example of why 5 scheduled days are needed for tests (west of the Pennines, at any rate...) and why draws make thinks more exciting, not less. Without a draw as a possibility this game would have been a foregone conclusion at lunch on day 3.

It is a dumb comment. Although both seem to have played for years without many injuries, especially Borad. Jimmy has had some back issues....
