Poor Africa, is he really the best (or only?) candidate?
I think the route to power for Labour is possibly a minority government with a confidence and supply agreement with the Lib Dems. No formal agreement is needed with the SNP simply the understanding that money bills are defacto confidence votes and if one fails it will lead to an election effectively leaves them trapped by their own rhetoric.Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:29 am Disagree with that - Labour are locked out of power by the rise of the SNP. Agree that the decline of Labour Unionism is bad news for the British nation and is linked to the decline of the heavy and national industries. I think the increasing London upper middle class clientele of the Labour Party is an underrated factor - these are the people who spend most of their lives pretending to be Irish or Scottish and are the inheritors of Orwell's 'more ashamed of standing to attention during 'God save the King' than of stealing from a poor box'. Labour leadership wasn't always like that of course:
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2 ... ee-deathsBorder Force staff who enact Priti Patel’s plans to “ push back” migrant boats in the Channel could be given immunity from conviction if a refugee dies, officials have confirmed.
The home secretary is seeking to introduce a provision in the nationality and borders bill that could give officials legal protections in the event that someone drowns.
Whether the provision, tucked away in an obscure corner of the bill, would actually protect officers from conviction under international maritime laws could be tested in the courts.

You have to wonder what Leicester has done to deserve MPs like Vaz and Webbe?

I'm with the bear on this one. To be fair, Leicester is a shithole of gigantic proportions.Lobby wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 4:59 pmThis could see the return of the detestable Keith Vaz, who will be hoping the voters of Leicester East will ignore his previous record of corruption scandals, providing drugs for rent boys and sustained and unpleasant bullying, as they have done in the past.SaintK wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 4:38 pmGuilty as charged!!!SaintK wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 3:40 pm More Labour scumminess. Indeed, but it seems like adding insult to injury for Labour to foist its most venal and stupidest MPs on the constituency.ASMO wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 12:13 pmTo be fair, Leicester is a shithole of gigantic proportions.Lobby wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 4:59 pmThis could see the return of the detestable Keith Vaz, who will be hoping the voters of Leicester East will ignore his previous record of corruption scandals, providing drugs for rent boys and sustained and unpleasant bullying, as they have done in the past.

It is awful news. Absolutely dreadful - he was just doing his job ffs.
However, why change the title of the thread? It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever what is said on this forum, and there's plenty of reasons to call this Government scum. Plenty of them are awful people judging by the shit they say and support, the policies they enact (or try to enact) are often deliberately malicious, and their handling of the pandemic has caused a vast amount of suffering.
This should have been put on its own thread to be honest, no the title wont change on this one s it is covering a completely different topic altogetherJM2K6 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 2:34 pmIt is awful news. Absolutely dreadful - he was just doing his job ffs.

Agree with your overarching point - no need to change strongly held beliefs and statements due to this sort of disgusting violence. It’d just be a meaningless symbol.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 2:34 pmIt is awful news. Absolutely dreadful - he was just doing his job ffs.

I do hope though that it may trigger a thought that the majority of MPs (Tory or otherwise) are just normal people living faulty lives like the rest of us.
Naming an entire party scum undermines the sentiment, as it’s clearly nonsensical. Calling it government scum would be more accurate for me, but you guys have your beliefs and so express them however you see fit.
RIP to the MP - thoughts to his poor family and anyone witnessed this cuntery

The title has been commented on a number of times, it's very silly.

Yeah. Title of this thread doesn't add a lot to any political discourse and is probably a reflection of the increased polarisation within political discussion. It's just a bit cringey, but whatever.

Shocking news, as a backbencher well out of the limelight not likely to be someone you'd think would be a target - not that any MP should be of course. There's no way each and every MP should need protection while doing their work in a decent society. Random nutter I guess and good that they arrested him to be treated as a common murderer. Condolences to his family.
I'd certainly be happy if the thread title was more neutral in tone as the bad 'uns are by no means limited to one party.

Whilst there will now be an outpouring of anger and grief from the political classes, just to remind, someone will be stabbed to death roughly every 36 hours in England in 2021!!!
The Guardian are reporting that counter-terrorism police have been called in:
“counter-terrorism police are assisting the investigation into the stabbing, which is being led by Essex police. Senior counter-terrorism officials are monitoring the situation closely and are being updated on emerging details of the attack and the suspect. Counter-terrorism police will usually stay involved in such an investigation until a non-terrorist motive is identified.”

Must be a bitter and twisted place you occupy when your first thought is that.

Wonder what her "proportionate" response to this will be?
Following the attack on Southend West MP Sir David Amess at a constituency surgery, Home Secretary Priti Patel said she would provide an update "in due course" on the safety of MPs.

Indeed. And we need a general UK politics thread, with a title to encourage more than just a hate echo chamber.Margin__Walker wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 3:06 pm Yeah. Could always start one, but then we would lose all the “gems” in here.
Did he have strong views on immigration?BREAKING: GB News understands that a 25-year-old man who has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Sir David Amess MP is a Somalian national.

That would be speculation. Amess was anti-abortion so could be a pro-life extremist.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:19 pmShocking news, as a backbencher well out of the limelight not likely to be someone you'd think would be a target - not that any MP should be of course. Amess would have been anti-abortion because he was a Roman Catholic, rather than a “pro-life extremist”.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 7:09 pmThat would be speculation.
