Agreed, she was wonderful, and so assured and confident at that age.

For me it was the juxtaposition of an intelligent, self confident, black, small 22 year old girl reciting a wonderful self penned poem at exactly the same spot that we had stupid, thick, brainwashed, white, pot bellied 50+ year old racist men chanting inane slogans copied from QANON websites waving their 'penis envy' assault rifles in the air. Whereas 1,000s of them couldn't demolish the pillars of US democracy with guns and weapons a small black girl destroyed them and what they stand for using only words. Wonderful.

I watched the inauguration for hours but missed the poem - tbh, the whole thing was incredibly dull and, eventually, I gave up on it. Glad the poetry went down well even though I have little time for such stuff.

I did think Amy Klobuchar was very good. Things brightened up every time she took the stage.

Doubt it. The last four years have been the equivalent of passers by rubber necking at a car wreck, Biden's administration shouldn't provide quite the same circus to stare at with morbid fascination and disbelief.

The Whitehouse corp in particular were, to stretch the metaphor, periodically locked out of the dining hall for daring to ask for some vegetables instead of another chocolate fudge sundae and will probably appreciate steady access to more staid fare.

That really was another stunning example of why the bumblecunt was unfit for any high office.

He continually fails to engage his brain, before he opens his gob; & this inevitably leads to gaffs, & worse.

When he was FS, he got a UK citizen thrown in gaol, because he repeated the accusations against her, as fact; there was the film of the ambassador trying to get him to shut-the-fuck-up, as he recited, 'Mandalay'; & his off the cuff remark about Obama, managed to convince a large part of the DNC that he was a racist; as it had unmistakable echos of birtherism.

I'm not sure why IH has resurrected this speculative story from last November. As I recall there was a lot of similar speculation that Johnson would be snubbed by Biden in the immediate aftermath of the election, but this all went quiet when Johnson was one of the first world leaders called by Biden.

Johnson may be a bumbling idiot, but Biden has already shown that even if he dislikes Johnson personally, this shouldn't affect relations between the US and the UK. Biden's first international visit as President will reportedly be to the UK.

I recently re-watched a documentary about the Windscale Fire; & how it happened at a very inconvenient time, because the UK was desperate to get the co-operation of the US in developing their Nuclear weapons. The US Congress had, right after the war; passed legislation to make it a Capital offence to share information on nuclear matters with any Non-US National.

What it all came down to was the close personal relationship between Macmillan, & Ike. Nothing to do with the, "Special Relationship", but instead down to the fact that the two were friends, & the access was basically arranged, between the two friends, over a weekend in Chequers.

People aren't robots; & Governments are composed of people, & their relationships, & their prejudices.

Ike, having commanded British troops and being well aware of the British war effort, was also well aware of how shabby shutting us out of a project we'd started and contributed to in good faith was. Macmillan reminded him not so subtly on this point as well.

and only a matter of days after installing metal detectors at the entrance to the chambers; they caught their first fuckwit.

He should be suspended immediately; & face a hearing from whatever committee is responsible for disciplining these cretins.

Oh; & he should immediately have his gun licenses revoked, & all his guns seized until he proves he understands that he can't just hand a loaded firearm to a random friend to hold, while he goes thru a metal detector.
US Capitol Police are investigating an incident in which a Republican lawmaker was stopped from bringing a concealed gun onto the House floor on Thursday, sources told CNN, the first time a member of Congress has been discovered with a firearm by the metal detectors now set up outside the legislative chamber.

Rep. Andy Harris, of Maryland,
set off a metal detector outside the House floor on Thursday and an officer soon discovered it was because he was carrying a concealed gun on his side, a Capitol official told CNN. The officer sent Harris away, prompting him to ask fellow Republican Rep. John Katko, of New York, to hold his weapon.

According to a press pool report, Katko refused to hold the gun for Harris, saying that he did not have a license. Harris then left the area and returned moments later, walking onto the House floor without setting off the magnetometer.

The Capitol official confirmed to CNN that Harris did not enter the House floor with a weapon. Harris' office did not immediately return a request for comment.

He’s a total dick anyway, he’s Maryland Eastern shore representative ( red counties), last week he almost got in a fight on the floor with a Democrat

His chief of staff issued a statement .
“Because his and his family’s lives have been threatened by someone who has been released awaiting trial, for security reasons, the congressman never confirms whether he nor anyone else he’s with are carrying a firearm for self-defense,'' the statement said. "As a matter of public record, he has a Maryland Handgun Permit. And the congressman always complies with the House metal detectors and wanding. The Congressman has never carried a firearm on the House floor.''

We're post Trump now, the fascist scum wing of the GOP are off the chain and are shifting the whole party to the extreme right (which in turn causes the centre to shift as the Democrats chase popular vote issues).

Well yeah, because that's where the G7 summit is being held. Bit disingenuous!
It isn’t till June. Obama and Bush both went on their first foreign trip in February. Even in the current circumstances Biden could make a trip abroad if he wanted to, surprised he isn’t.

Plus who would want a Presidential visit just now, with all the hangers-on, security and media? And why would they want to visit a locked down city anywhere?
