It's going to be a while yet.
Its now 30 years. Another 100 years?
And yet, any time a black player is selected, doubt is cast as to whether the selection is on merit.
Blame this on the transformation system. Try to explain this to u13 provincial cricketers.

It’s completely rational to query a player as long as there are quotas.

Yes.

But the question was asked: when does the short term end?

My reply was based on the current racial divisions in which, even players who have proved their ability internationally, like Ntini, Rabada, Ngidi or Bavuma have their selection questioned.

Charl Langeveldt even turned down selection because of the perception that he was only selected on race which is laughable, given his record, but such attitudes are very common here.

Darryl Culinan stated that he didn't believe that "cricket is inherently a black man's game".

I know you are trying to make me look like an idiot, but until such attitudes die out, domestic quotas are likely to remain.

Thankfully, they are a lot better than they were twenty, or even ten years ago.

So you take 1 sentence from Cullinan (a classy player, but by most accounts a poephol) and apply it to all white people? That's a strange pov.

We need to judge players in the national team on their performances on the field, no matter what race they are.

No.

If you bother to read what I posted, I said that attitudes need to change. I also said that they have already changed, but, for quotas (in the domestic game: I hope I have made it clear that I don't believe that there should be quotas in the National side) not to be implemented, they need to change a lot more.

I understand what Cullinan was trying to say, but he was wrong as has been proved by the number of blacks getting interested in the game since 2016, when he said it.

I never mentioned Cullinan who is a jerk. So why link what I said to be about him. Making up stuff again!

I am speaking generally. But no matter what environment, if there are quotas you will always check the participant. Whether it is putting in a white soccer player into a team, or trying to create racial diversity by numbers or sexes, or age groups. It is completely rational to see if the “quota” person actually makes the grade.

And please, pretty please, stop reading things into what I say? Just reply to what I actually say and don’t join my statement to any previous thing that someone may have said unless I actually quote it.

Cullinan's original quote was about blacks preferring soccer to cricket.

My comment (which was addressed to PB) was about attitudes to black players having to change before domestic quotas can be dropped.

I am being attacked on 2 connected, but separate issues.

You attacked me when I said that PB had implied that the Proteas are weak because of interference by the Minister on quotas in the National side.
Fangle wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 10:30 pm Don’t worry about it. He is a expert in inferring stuff that isn’t there. He does it over and over.
The conversation I was having with PB was about how long quotas in the domestic game (which I'm inclined to support) should remain. I cited the attitudes towards black players (giving Cullinan as one example) and you took exception and said that such attitudes are justified.

It does seem to me that you are trying to goad me into saying something uncivil.

Time for independent structures. Its easy enough. Create leagues and tournaments independently. Let the kids play without being labeled in any way.

They don't care about quotas. They just want to play.

The Proteas should never be their concern. Let's be honest. Its hard to watch our national team currently. Kids prefer watching other tournaments.

Independent leagues and tournaments are happening already.

Who pays for the running of these leagues?

Parents pay a fee. Its not much really. Last weekend it cost R175.00 per player for a days tournament. Three 16 over a side games including a final. 8 teams. For the clubs there is not much income currently with winter approaching. There are little tournaments popping up everywhere.
.At the moment it's tournaments. Could easily be organized into a league....kids want the stats....thats how they get recognized. There are independent stats structures that get you recognized. You sign up for them at a fee if you want coaches etc. to notice you. There's a whole year of information lost on the kids otherwise. Our club has a few very talented youngsters. Complete all rounders every one of them. They were really coming into great form before Covid. Lost a year. No recognition during under 13s. Its heartbreaking for the lads. It's going to be sad when they all leave for new clubs and lose contact with each other.
