I invested in a decent skipping rope last week, quite thick and weighty leather rope with decent wooden handles with the rope attached at right handles to the handle on freely moving metal eyes. Like a proper one boxers use. What a revelation! I used to skip a lot when I played rugby and I've always been quite decent at it so it didn't take long to get the old rhythm back but I didn't realise how terrific it is at getting your heart rate up! I nearly hit 170bpm doing 5x interval reps of 112secs work to 30secs rest. Did 3 sets of those. You can see why boxers skip!
Is a real calf killer though, and my quads were fairly stiff too but as an exercise it's right up there in terms of getting a decent sweat on. Highly recommended. The rope was a bargain off eBay as well, I paid £9 delivered.
