Often, yes. In this case it's just a reversal of letters in the clue.

Given inch could be hypersonic.... so take off i,n,c,h left with yperso... anagram of Osprey...?

Feels like a major breakthru.. even though I was just understanding the answer...

It's not actually an anagram. Just look at the letters backwards in the clue.
