In a world populated by people interested in a genuine debate, that would be a valid comment but some of the people being put on ignore are not even remotely interested in it. They are well gone past that point.

Back in the nineties, before the www, I subscribed to a service called CIX (IIRC the subscription fee was 500 quid a year!), which allowed me to access forums largely populated with knowledgeable, if sometimes irascible, people who were of great assistance to me in my work.

Subsequently, the world-wide-web happened, and, with a nominal fee to an ISP, that small group of experts expanded exponentially, which was generally regarded as a pretty favourable development, as indeed it was.

However, the downside is that everybody+dog can present themselves as experts on any and all topics and, no matter how batshit crazy your beliefs are, you can always find a plethora of sources which support them.

So, what was initially a hugely beneficial development became something far more sinister.

You only have to look at the Bill Gates/Fauci/5G/population control conspiracy theories regarding the vaccine to understand the damage that it can do.

Hence, I feel that, if you don't contest the misinformation, you contribute to it.

I mainly post on PR but have I'm losing patience recently because of all the obvious reasons. TBH I think both places are going to die soon.
There is no traffic here, and the trolls and wierdos are slowly driving any decent posters away from PR. A good few have been lost in the past year. I don't think ignoring helps either - every second post is just "Dozy/DAC/Bimbo/etc/etc is on your ignore list show this post" and It doesn't hide threads or quoted posts.

This split is another factor that is killing it. Lots of decent posters came here which has sucked the life away. And no new posters are going to ever find this place (or the old place anyway, I'm surprised there is still a link to it on the main site)

Forums have had their day, we are going to be stuck with reddit and shit which are just low attention span groupthink bubbles with no real discussion.
