We had lost the first test and were drawing in the second with time either up or all but up. When he got the ball the question was whether to boot it out and accept the best we could get was a drawn series or have a crack at getting the win.

I am.... not convinced that kicking the ball away was the most effective way to launch a counter attack to win the game.

They were kind enough to give us some stupid penalties but as I recall last 15-20 was all Boks. Lads were dropping like flies around the time BOD went off.

Absolutely should've taken the draw but it's a bit generous then thinking SA go and rotate almost the entire team for a now not-so-dead rubber 3rd test.

Still, what a series. Don't make them like that anymore.

It's how we lost those games, though - first Test they blitzed us then we came back at them and they had to do the old Smit switcheroo to try and steady the ship; second Test we blitzed them instead and really should've won it. Would've made the third Test a real humdinger.

I was roaring that at the top of my hysterical lungs in the pub watching the substitution unfold much to the amusement of all around me. A few minutes later lads are staring at me slackjawed like I was some idiot rugby savant, and Saffers were lining up to buy me commiseration pints.

Sooo fecking frustrated I coudn't drink any more, stormed out in a huff, disgusted.

Just as 99% of folks have never forgiven/forgotten ROG for what unfolded, I have never forgiven/forgotten Ian McGeechan et al. They funked under pressure to a greater extent than ROG did, for me.
