Absolutely. I remember going around the Reina Sofia years ago and thinking how did this conman manage to steal a career producing "art" that an eight year old would be embarrassed to present for a school project. The only time I've ever come out of an art gallery feeling angry and cheated (notwithstanding I only went there to see
Guernica, happily my soul was soothed in the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza).
Oddly I went the other way around. When I was first introduced to Miro by an art loving gf, that was my exact reaction. I changed after going to the Fundacio Miro (sp?) and reading about him.
I think this is the epitome of the art debate: clearly all meritorious art cannot be purely photographically representational as the classicists would have had us believe for centuries until the Impressionists and Surrealists told them all to f**k off. But that opened the can of worms: it smashed down the door for spoofers like Trace Emin to exploit the self proclaimed art "cognoscenti" who reach for ever increasing sh*te as they attempt to justify their existences by snootily claiming only they can see and appreciate what the plebs cannot.
Is Miro an Emin? We won't agree but I think not.
I went to the Fundació Joan Miró and decided he was in the 'stealing a living' category

One of the greatest frauds in history.
Miro? You think so?

I had the absolutely opposite experience and Miro is now my favourite artist, by a distance. I was plodding round the Reina Sofia and came into the room with his La Danse Des Coquelicots and was stopped in my tracks, just fell in love with it and it changed my whole view of art. Funny how it does that.
