Watched that again recently on iPlayer, it's still great. Glasgow almost unrecognisable in it - it's a fascinating look back

And for me there's a second golden age around the emergnnce of Mogwai and Arab Strap. Man, I love Arab Strap. Bob Dylan's not fit to lick Aidan Moffat's boots as a lyricist. Should get a Nobel prize for The Holiday Girl alone, then another one for The First Big Weekend and a bonus one for Daughters of Darkness.
And then Moffat should get another one for all of As Days Get Dark.

Saw them at Leith Theatre last year, fucking tremendous.
Aye, As Days Get Dark is ridiculous quality from the first line and riff to the last. What an album. Great to see them touring again.

Anyone mentioned The Vaselines? A big influence on Kurt Cobain.
So I squares up, casual like.

Orange Juice is a great shout!
It is. Bit I can’t remember why! A memory of someone playing a load of their stuff one night many years ago

Nah, it’s not that, that’s shite

I should mention I generally hate 80’s music

To widen this from just Scottish bands, there is a list here of Time Out's top 60 songs from the 80s. There are three from that list that I dislike, one or two others that are okay, I wouldn't switch the channel if it came on the radio, but most of them I still like.

About 90% of those just give me a cold feeling. Unfair to include the hip hop classics.

I LOVE the 80s, but that Timeout list is shite. Some songs aren’t even the best by the band they chose for their Top 60 (G&R, Smiths, Duran Duran, Etc)

Do The Communards count (through Jimmy Somerville)?

Maybe a minority but you're not alone. I've never understood the love for Tinseltown in the Rain, it's miserable pish.

Hipsway, Love and Money, Primal Scream and the Jesus and Mary Chain are some of my all time favourites, but interested that no-one's mentioned the Eurythmics or Bronski Beat yet
Mostly English despite having a Scottish lead singer. You could also include Fairground Attraction. with the inimitable Eddi Reader.

And yes, I know it is 70s, but one of the all time greatest songs by a Scottish band, with one of the all time great opening guitar riffs.

Stewart Admason did go onto found Big Country in the 80s

The Eurythmics were a duo, Annie Lennox is from Ellon / Aberdeen
Bronski Beat were a three-piece, Jimmy Sommerville and Steve Bronski are both from Glasgow

So, not sure "mostly English" stacks up

I've no idea whether you guys know... Edwyn Collins suffered a near fatal double stroke a few years back that naturally demanded a lot of rehab. He still writes and pops up at the odd live performance. This is a little topical,

Coldplay brought him on to sing a few of his songs during the encore at their concert at Hampden last year. He was looking well and it was very emotional for those in the crowd who knew his story.

Good in it? Glad you enjoyed!

There are some deleted scenes on YouTube too that are very funny.

I met Edwyn and the rest of Orange Juice in London in the early 80s. Lovely guys. Rip It Up brings back great memories.

So many great Scottish bands to choose from, but the Associates have always been my favourite.

I must admit I though Bronski was a Londoner. I simply forgot the Eurythmics were a duo with backing musicians.

Not earth-shattering news, but I see Paul Buchanan was awarded an honorary degree by Glasgow Uni yesterday, along with Bill Paterson.

I really like Rooftops. Bought the album for my brother, but he didn't get into it at all, so I ended up binging it for a while.
