Watched that again recently on iPlayer, it's still great. Glasgow almost unrecognisable in it - it's a fascinating look back

Aye, As Days Get Dark is ridiculous quality from the first line and riff to the last. What an album. Great to see them touring again.Biffer wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 8:10 pmAnd then Moffat should get another one for all of As Days Get Dark.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 2:17 pm No mention of Ultravox yet?
And for me there's a second golden age around the emergnnce of Mogwai and Arab Strap. Man, I love Arab Strap. Bob Dylan's not fit to lick Aidan Moffat's boots as a lyricist. Should get a Nobel prize for The Holiday Girl alone, then another one for The First Big Weekend and a bonus one for Daughters of Darkness.
Saw them at Leith Theatre last year, fucking tremendous.
Nah, it’s not that, that’s shite
I should mention I generally hate 80’s music

To widen this from just Scottish bands, there is a list here of Time Out's top 60 songs from the 80s. There are three from that list that I dislike, one or two others that are okay, I wouldn't switch the channel if it came on the radio, but most of them I still like.

About 90% of those just give me a cold feeling. Unfair to include the hip hop classics.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 3:24 pm

Do The Communards count (through Jimmy Somerville)?
Mostly English despite having a Scottish lead singer. You could also include Fairground Attraction. with the inimitable Eddi Reader.Chrysoprase wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 8:27 pmMaybe a minority but you're not alone. I've never understood the love for Tinseltown in the Rain, it's miserable pish.
Hipsway, Love and Money, Primal Scream and the Jesus and Mary Chain are some of my all time favourites, but interested that no-one's mentioned the Eurythmics or Bronski Beat yet
Only Orange Juice record I possess (in 12" natch).Slick wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 12:23 pmNah, it’s not that, that’s shite

Which of course led onto..........
Those into Arabstrap might enjoy this documentary, btw

The Eurythmics were a duo, Annie Lennox is from Ellon / Aberdeenweegie01 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 6:47 amMostly English despite having a Scottish lead singer. Bronski Beat were a three-piece, Jimmy Sommerville and Steve Bronski are both from Glasgow
So, not sure "mostly English" stacks up

I've no idea whether you guys know... Edwyn Collins suffered a near fatal double stroke a few years back that naturally demanded a lot of rehab. He still writes and pops up at the odd live performance. This is a little topical,
Coldplay brought him on to sing a few of his songs during the encore at their concert at Hampden last year. He was looking well and it was very emotional for those in the crowd who knew his story.Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 8:45 pm I've no idea whether you guys know... There are some deleted scenes on YouTube too that are very funny.
I met Edwyn and the rest of Orange Juice in London in the early 80s. Lovely guys. Rip It Up brings back great memories.Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 9:15 am That's good to hear.... when I stumbled over his story last year I found it very moving.
So many great Scottish bands to choose from, but the Associates have always been my favourite.

Guilty as charged
I must admit I though Bronski was a Londoner. I simply forgot the Eurythmics were a duo with backing musicians.Chrysoprase wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 9:15 pmweegie01 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 7:52 pmPedantSpoilerShowChrysoprase wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 4:26 pm
