Thanks Sandy. Gotta look at positives - still get my head above my feet every morning, still playing a bit of sport, still drinking (too much).

And last but by no means least - there's people way worse off than me at the ripe old age of 60.

Enjoy the match.

Unfortunately, not even close. It's like trying to play golf one handed. And while you get the odd good strike, they are few and far between. Always next week.

And beer. Thankfully there's always alcohol close by.

Fark me, as the racing is now close I thought I'd check out start times. First race 6:30am my time, and being YouTube or AC web, no recording. Oh well, early start for me those days.

Edut: not sure what the fuck I was expecting. It's in Spain FFS. :lolno:

So that was a replay of yesterdays practice racing session I just watched? NZ looked a notch above others, but ITA made a race of the last one.

These boats are 'niftier' than the AC boats you remember from last time, but they are just the baby version. Around 45ft. The real AC boats are more like 75ft with twice the crew. They aren't being brought out until closer to regatta time.

That’s the rules ETNZ set.

Not allowed on the big boys until next year.

It was a concept Team NZ brought in last rotation. I think it was 2 fold: it gave them a chance to evaluate the physics (modeling vs real world), and also saved money for teams to get up to speed with this new concept. This is now a progression primarily as a cost saving measure I reckon. Less crew and build cost, so encouraging more entrants. It's in NZ's advantage to keep this as cheap as possible, coz if it's unlimited budget, we lose. Also, if it's cheaper more teams will get involved which is a better spectacle.

Remember Freemantle? There were about 4 Aussie teams going at it, and something like 7 challengers. Racing all over the place. But sadly, economics and greed have killed that off.

Still, it was nice to see the teams racing, and start to get excited about it again.

On the practice day the winds were ridiculously light. I’m sure I heard someone say 7.5 knots. Yet they were hitting speeds fourfold that.

Tomorrow should be a better day.

That was a bit anti-climactic. USA were looking strong on the last day, so would have been a good contest.

Overall, NZ and USA a step ahead I think, but France, Italy and Swiss right there. But poor old Sir Ben. Hyped up as a sailing God with loads of money backing them. Solid last in most races.

Don't necessarily disagree with you, but this is meant to be the F1 of the sailing world, so they need to be in the bigger faster machines. I do hope, like we saw this weekend, that all teams are somewhat competitive.

November in Jeddah in the smaller boats, then the last regatta in March?? is in the bigger 75 footers.
