Sometimes it goes your way. Sometimes not.

A pass sticking. A missed tackle. A knockon

U20s has the TMO. The difference is that at that level the players do less that warrants an intervention.

Amusing that some French booed when the Blitzboks came out and booed when they won. In your heeaad, in your heeaad ...

Specs was the difference between that match and the pool matches, played the entire match, missed some tackles but our best play maker. A former Rovers player. Blitzboks defended hard and forced errors, then had the sense to kick long infield and chase at crucial moments.

Would place the teams 1. France 2. Fiji 3. Blitzboks 4. Aussies. But it's hard to judge the Aussies because their quarter was a bit of a dud, other three all look brilliant with possession but are vulnerable when they're defending, Fiji the weakest of the three on defence and Blitzboks defence maybe the best, France look the most rounded.

Don’t think they had it in the 2nd tier competition Scotland won - could be wrong

Edit: even if they did they must have been using it very sparingly which is much better in itself

Shocking miss of a blatant knock on when Fiji scored from the kick off. Also that game showed the importance of getting under the sticks!

Just watched a replay. Ball rather seemed to have gone exactly sideways, not blatant at all.

Don't put your hope high on our midgets. They played their final last night. Will be great if they knock out France again.

Outstanding from the Blitzboks.

Their defence in the 2nd half was incredible. I'm always amazed at how small the margin of error in 7s, when defending 1-on-1. Especially when our team is so bloody small! Incredible effort from them, to think they snuck in to the competition in the first place.

Also, credit to the person in charge of the pitch. I don't think I've seen such a nice field before, must be lovely to play on.

Geez the Irish are really unlucky. A few days ago they were laughing at us and we were angry about our performances. Now Ireland is out and we are through to the semis. You really have to feel for the Irish

Saturday

today is opening ceremony.
If the weather holds it's likely going to be something special)

we have been having an odd summer: France is on a Atlantic pattern with a lot of instability while the rest of continental Europe is being toasted...

At least they made the Olympic finals - unlike our lot that also lost a knock-out game we needed to win to qualify!

Oh I quite agree that Team GB shit the bed in failing to qualify. To be fair though, the winners of that knock-out game are in the semi-finals having put out the pre-tournament favourites.

The whole playing as Team GB full time thing should be put to bed. It's damaged sevens across England Wales and Scotland.

It's France's Gold to lose and it would be hilarious it the Blitzboks knock out highly favoured France in a home knockout match again.

Can't see it happening with France eager address the "injustice" of 2023 but here's hoping...

At the risk of taunting the mocker gods, I don't think France looked that good. But probably good enough to beat us on recent form.

I reckon the crowd behind them is worth an extra 14 points to them. I don't think I've ever seen such a crowd for a 7s game. So in a weird way, if we can't win it then it's probably good for the game that France do.

Pretty much this. I think the QF was our final. Don't think we have the talent in this squad or the juice to beat France at home, but I will be ecstatic if turn out to be wrong about that.

Seriously???

Somewhat hypocritical, given SA rugby's history of ref bashing (enabled by Rassie, of course).
