Basically anything that doesn't have Haskall in it who is mindfuckingly annoying, Tindall is a little behind him in that respect, but Haskall out there on his own in terms of shiteness.

I've found Off The Menu surprisingly fun. Ed Gamble and James Acaster talk to people, mainly other comedians as tends to be the way with podcasts set up by comics, within the loose structure of the guest coming up with their dream 3 course meal. They do have some random non-comedian guests at times. I've noticed that one episode I've yet to listen to features Corey Taylor of Slipknot! I know they're both metal fans, so they'd obviously be up for it, but I'd love to know how they swung that. Maybe they'll mention it in the show when I get to it.

Also, having finally decided to watch Taskmaster, the Taskmaster podcast hosted by Ed Gamble. It starts on the most recent series, but it's also catching up on previous ones too. They're up to series 4 with the historic ones now.

I quite enjoy the Good, the Bad and the Rugby. Payne and Tindall are quite good at balancing out the Hask when he gets too excited. They had some great guests on too, really enjoyed the Pocock episode.

The Rugby Pod with Goode and Hamilton is a regular for me too. I find Hamilton very funny.

The BBC rugby union podcast is ok, better for catching up on news than for lads lads lads sort of banter.

I thoroughly enjoy the Joe Marler podcast, both his usual one and the more recent Lions podcasts. Dan Coles was great value for money for his few appearances.

Kawazaki wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:02 pm British Scandal is quite fun. The first season is all about the murder of Litvinenko which of course is not a fun subject but it's put together and presented by Matt Forde and Alice Levine, two comedians who have great chemistry and there are some genuine laugh out loud moments amongst the seriousness of the crime itself.

There's four seasons, current one is about Nick Leeson bringing down Barings.
Definitely in for this one. I was at Barings for several years and had a lot to do with SE Asian markets, all in the run-up to Leeson’s fuckwittery. I know a lot of the characters in this story.

If you're into serial killer, strange stuff, horror, gore and comedy - The Last Podcast on the Left is well worth a listen. Henry Zabrowski can be a bit much sometimes - but they do some pretty decent research and their banter is not too bad.

For completely no reason other than I love the TV show - Office Ladies is a good way to pass the time if you want to know anything about The Office: An American Workplace. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey are very likeable and they have great guests.

For deep dives behind the Musicians - Disgraceland is pretty interesting - good bite sized episodes. Jake Brennan is a little hard to listen to - he's a bit 'too cool for school'....but the subject matter is pretty compelling. He also does the 27 Club about the famous folk who left us at 27.

S-Town is so thoroughly engaging I binged it all in about 2 or 3 days.

Serial is brilliant - but you need to commit to a pretty big chunk of time to listen to it all.

Probably a long shot but anyone know of any podcasts around Humanitarian Action, particularly the history of it?

Is this a specific organization, or do you mean humanitarian efforts in general... for example, efforts by the UN to distribute food, etc.?

In general. Probably shouldn't have capitalised Humanitarian Action in fairness.

It also sounds like the sort of topic you'd get from big media orgs, like BBC Sounds, CBC Podcasts, ABC ... mabye The Economist or Newsweek?

For the plane nerds. USAF pilot talks about his time with the A-10 ... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrap!!!

... it was interesting hearing him admit that they probably wouldn't have lasted long had it all kicked off, but their job was to go in and cause as much mayhem as possible to invading Russians. Probably daft thinking with today's tech and countermeasures, but you'd like to see one (or even better, an old Skyraider) strafe some Russians in Ukraine.

Yup, the whole defence of Europe would have seen most of the RAF based in Germany, (Jaguars, Phantoms and Harriers) wiped out by the Russians in about an hour. Even though pilots have to believe their fighter jets are the best in the world..they would all have been going on suicide missions.

There's a very good history podcast called Fall of Civilisations. Only 15 or 20 episodes, but some of them top four hours (good for long flights!). Each episode looks at an ancient civilisation and examines how and why it collapsed. So Aztecs, Incas, Easter Island, Greenland Vikings, Khmer, Nabatea, Carthage, Songhai, etc. Really fascinating

History Extra had an interesting chat last week that's probably relevant to a lot of discussions going on at the moment. Are discussions too polar?

This looking at British Imperial history:
https://www.podbean.com/media/share/dir ... ce=w_share
Controversies surrounding the history of the British empire have become particularly intense in recent years, with academics, politicians and commentators all offering differing views about how we should understand the nation's imperial past. A new book, The Truth about Empire, delves into the debate, with the stated aim of foregrounding the view of historians. Matt Elton spoke to three people involved in the project – Alan Lester, Bronwen Everill, and Sathnam Sanghera – to find out more.
