6 nations 2021 Scrum down in the lockdown
pfft, not even close to being the worst shirt that Scotland have had. Remember that year when their away kit was identical to Italy's home kit and you couldn't tell who was who?
What I wouldn't give to have the 2007 Italy team back
I definitely knew it wasn’t Parks. Because that game was when the selectors finally lost patience with the useless twat, and put someone else in to start. Unfortunately, someone else was World Class Phil, and thanks to him and Cusiter we had the worst start to a Test match, well, ever. Italy must have thought Christmas had come early. And that was Parks cemented as first choice for a while longer.
Parks really led a charmed life playing 10 for Scotland. He got the shirt in the first place because Matt Williams stuck him in the team as soon as he got off the plane, and kept it because Frank Hadden stubbornly refused to let Paterson convert to 10. He then held the position practically for ever due to a total lack of credible opposition. On the odd occasion anyone else was tried, it was such a disaster that Parks would get the nod again. We only got rid of him in the end because Laidlaw was temporarily converted to a 10.
It seems like a bad dream now. Parks couldn’t get a back line moving and was unable to tackle. He was supposed to be good at tactical kicking, but three games out of four he was shite at that too.

That video is quite something, in my memory I knew it was a car crash but at least thought it took 20 minutes or so!

That must be the absolute 6N low point for Scotland, those 6 minutes. Even worse than the 61-21 drubbing at Twickenham, ir giving away the win in Cardiff (though it comes close).Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:16 pm That video is quite something, in my memory I knew it was a car crash but at least thought it took 20 minutes or so!
Amazing lack of quality in that Scottish back line. It's criminal Patterson spent his days on the wing. And the one other proper quality back in that team threw 2 intercepts in 2 minutes.
Well I, for one, think it was an inspired choice and congratulate you on it.
I remember that Italy game very clearly because I was spared the pain of watching it. I had to go into the workshop to get some stuff done and my (Welsh) mate kept texting me the score and "WTF!" messages.
The only thing that could have made it worse was if I'd stuck my face in the bandsaw

My personal lowest point was 51-3 in Cardiff, though that’s because I was there. We were always going to lose after Hogg got himself sent off, but it didn’t have to be an utter humiliation. Scott Johnson ensured that by making us play one short in the back line for 60 minutes rather than do what any other coach would have done and sub off a flanker. I could still cheerfully punch him for that.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:30 pmThat must be the absolute 6N low point for Scotland, those 6 minutes. The ‘giving away the win’ in Cardiff is always spoken of as an amazing Welsh comeback, but what tends to be forgotten is that we lost all of our back 3 to major injuries and were then given two very soft YCs, so we had 13 men and Mike Blair on the wing.

The lowest point of the lowest point was at the 2nd one when a bloke in a wheelchair called me a wanker as we left our seats. Definitely a low point

On the other hand, and just so it's not all doom and gloom, I was at the 1990 Calcutta Cup game, more or less straight down from the clock, a bit over towards the west stand, so I got a great view of Tony Stanger's try to win the Grand Slam.
That was a good day, the "slow walk" has become a bit of a legend, but it really did take the roof off the place, or it would have done if there had been one.

To be fair, he did have a decent boot on him. He was basically an exact complement of Godman, who was quite good with ball in hand but literally could not kick, which is a bit of a handicap for an international fly half.Yr Alban wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 12:50 pmI definitely knew it wasn’t Parks. It shows how far Scottish rugby has come in the last 10 years, neither of them would be anywhere near the squad now.
That would have been cruel. I forearmed him in the face

I was on a bus from Cape Tribulation to Cairns - it stopped at Mossman for 30 mins and I found a bar showing it. Watched the Stanger try and then had to get back on the bus with no way of finding out if we had hung on until I got to Cairns. Happy days.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:59 am On the other hand, and just so it's not all doom and gloom, I was at the 1990 Calcutta Cup game, more or less straight down from the clock, a bit over towards the west stand, so I got a great view of Tony Stanger's try to win the Grand Slam.

I can't have been far away from you then, I was just a bit further right (as you look at the pitch) from the clock, about two back from the front. Didn't actually see Stanger ground the ball as the place erupted.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:59 am On the other hand, and just so it's not all doom and gloom, I was at the 1990 Calcutta Cup game, more or less straight down from the clock, a bit over towards the west stand, so I got a great view of Tony Stanger's try to win the Grand Slam.

I turned down tickets with my dad because I was a stroppy teenager, didn't think we would win and wanted to watch it with my mates down south. Good article, not easy to be a pro rugby player and a full time student, maybe the only international working hard to be on a bench..... in a court room.sturginho wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 2:12 pm Pardon my French

Sexton having a moan. Must admit while he probably has a right to complain, it's entirely clear what exactly he's taken issue with: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/ ... nch-doctor
I note a lack of specifics. I'd trust a French doctor before I trust Sexton, and the final paragraph of conspiratorial thinking doesn't do his credibility any favours. Still, keeping an open mind.Johnny Sexton has responded to comments from a French doctor about his concussion record, calling them “highly inappropriate”, “inaccurate” and “upsetting” for the Ireland captain’s family.
The fly-half is going through return-to-play protocols before Sunday’s Six Nations meeting with France after suffering a blow to the head in the weekend defeat to Wales. Dr Jean-Francois Chermann ordered Sexton be stood down from rugby for 12 weeks when he was a Racing 92 player in 2014 due to repeated brain injuries.

The neurologist told French radio station RMC Sport on Tuesday that he believed the 35-year-old has sustained around 30 concussions during his career and expressed concern about him rushing back into action. Sexton has responded angrily to the comments, saying: “I am pretty saddened and shocked by the inaccurate reports that were thrown out.
“It’s inaccurate and highly inappropriate and I am pretty disappointed but, for me, I am so used to it, it’s almost like water off a duck’s back, but for my wife and mum it’s very upsetting.”
“But that’s the world we live in. I thought there was patient and doctor confidentiality, I am pretty sure that exists in the world, and I just can’t get over the fact that someone thought it was appropriate to just come out of nowhere and just start saying things that weren’t even accurate, that’s the most hurtful thing.”
Sexton was forced off for the final 10 minutes of the 21-16 loss in Cardiff after hitting his head on the knee of Wales flanker Justin Tipuric. The Leinster player represented Paris-based side Racing from 2013 to 2015, with Dr Chermann’s recommendation of a three-month break coming after he sustained a succession of head injuries.
He and Ireland vice-captain James Ryan, who was also forced off at the Principality Stadium, are each going through phased protocols in order to be available for the France game. Sexton is on course to play against Les Blues and expressed total faith in his country’s medial staff.
Asked if he was passing the protocols, he replied: “I have so far. I have to do another one today and another tomorrow and we’ll see how we go. I have just got to focus on this week and the return to play and if I don’t pass one of those stages, I won’t play. If I do, I will be fit to play and whether I play or not is down to the coaches then. I trust the medical guys here, they look after us incredibly well and I will continue to trust them.”
Sexton has regularly become the centre of attention before meetings between Ireland and France due to his short spell in French rugby. Should he be ruled out of the game, his Leinster teammate Ross Byrne or Ulster’s Billy Burns would deputise in the No 10 jersey.
“It seems to be always the French game coming up that something happens, whether it’s before or after,” Sexton said. “You get used to dealing with these type of things when you’re captain of your country. It’s a privileged position to be in. Sometimes it can wear down on you and you need to be reminded that there’s a lot of people that would swap in for your job, so try and enjoy it, despite all of the speculation and attention.”
Potentially started from misunderstanding due to translation and partial info.
Sexton stated post match he did not have a HIA but was going to and follow return to play protocol. It was obvious that he had had a concussion.
This bit in the press conference got French Journos frothing...
The French docs that were interviewed did not divulge anything confidential one is the guy that treated him during his time in Paris and basically stopped him playing for 3 month.
The other is one of the leading specialists.
The FFR return to play protocols and advice is to extend time post recovery as there is about 60% chance of injury to the player in the following weeks.
Here is a brive Coach explaining that.
The French have taken enough Flak on treatment of concussion (with good reason) however the current state of affair is quite good.

It was on Bernol a few days ago and from ASM's doctor who said it was sad for Sexton given the number of concussions he'd already had. Basically he was commenting that although 100% certainty was not possible, all the visible signs of concussion were there.
What you can be sure of is France will send a few lumps down his channel as a test. Lucky for Sexton that Vakatawa is out but Thomas, Fickou and Penaud are no midgets.

Well confidence has gone down a natch or two with our team announcement. Very, very typical of Scotland for Redpath to be out after a fantastic debut.
I would think we should still win, but that's a Welsh team that I would not be surprised to lose to.
