Surprisingly good strike back from Sale with the clock in the red.

Not a bad start to the second half for La Rochelle. Ball straight off the top of the lineout, pass inside and a run in from almost the half way line.

Oof, Hammersley won't want to see that again. La Rochelle starting to build a cushion.

Backrow is a thing of beauty. Make all the hits and turnovers but also great in open play too. They are the core of what makes this side tick.

Just wayyyy too good.

{EDIT} Bar West's dismal kicking off the tee.

What's the story with Gourdon these days, Torq? I remember him looking pretty good for France, but he hasn't had a look in for a little while.

There are just so many good flankers available that he's no longer on the radar. He was out for a while with injury and other players knocked him out of contention.

Poor second half from us. I never want to hear Keyser or see Brace with a whistle again.

Had Nolli who is very good but rest of C4 is muck. The annoying Mick, the token gay, and Gashton dragged in, presumably because they thought since he'd played for Sale and in France, he might utter something intelligible.

As an aside, LaR were the worst French side Sale could have come up against.

Dear God, this commentary is inane sometimes. I paraphrase but apparently being able to trouble any team is a great asset in knockout rugby. Who knew?

It was a classic good biggun beats a good little 'un. We panicked as well which didn't help. I think they'd have always beaten us, but having Lood and Ben Curry available would've helped us hugely

My first instinct is that is exceptionally poor defence rather than anything superb from O’Flaherty

Not sure what happened on the floor there, felt like Exeter played it on the floor, but swings and roundabouts with the blatant early tackle before I guess?

EDIT - No excuses for all those missed tackles though.

The one with the hands on the floor looked like a clear side entry from Devoto regardless.

Exeter need to adjust. French refs are known to allow more of a mess at the breakdown and Reynal's giving a fair amount of leeway. Not a lot wrong with that one from VDF though.

I was just about to say nothing to stop LCD taking advantage of the refs interpretation, and who pops up with a turnover where he's clearly on his elbows?

Can't argue against a penalty there for me, wouldn't have argued a yellow too much either, but pen feels OK.

Yeah, never a read.

Penalty seems the right decision by 2 potential routes.
