Bledisloe I: All Blacks vs Wallabies: MATCH THREAD: Oct 11
Actually yes, Clarke ran well.Gumboot wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:27 amHe had a much better second half than first half, but Clarke was very good when he came on.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:23 am I thought Bridge was our best outside back, and deserves to retain the 11 jersey.
+1.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 3:55 am Reiko Ioane is such a dickhead. Gave away a certain try simply because he wanted to look good whilst scoring it. The only positive is that he didn't try and start a fight immediately after knocking on. He should be replaced immediately and dropped for next week for that indiscretion.

Thoroughly enjoyed it (got disturbed half way through so had to watch the second half on delay). Whenever I see teams give it the All Blacks in the first 20, my initial thought is that they won't be able to do this for the full 80...but the Wallabies did it.
Was very impressed with their newcomers, and Rennie's 'wave' patterns had the All Blacks struggling for a fair portion of the game.
Having said that, they didn't quite have enough to make it stick. Even though the Wallabies could make inroads, after a couple of phases, the All Blacks would put in a crunching tackle that set them back. They'd have beaten a lesser team today by a fair amount.
Hard to know about the All Blacks. They appear to be in a bit of a rut (well, as big a rut as you can get in with the All Blacks). They took their chances well, and are as dangerous as ever on the counter, but they never looked like they would/could build a try from the bottom up.

Despite most of the AB players having their worst ever games, we would have still won by double digits if we didn't have Rieko Ioane at 13. He butchered a certain try because he wanted to look cool scoring it, and then gave away a try with the worst defensive read I've ever seen from an All Black centre. Ian Foster has failed every test he's been presented with as the All Black head coach, and his next test will be having the guts to drop Ioane.

What a bonkers finish. So many chances, yet nothing. Very surprised we didn't look at a droppy. Or at least make they Wallabies think we were looking at it.
Yet despite that the Wallabies probably feel worse about the draw than the ABs with some justification.
Both sides looked a bit rusty which was expected, especially with poor conditions making their mark, but still an exciting game despite that.

The Wallabies kicked the ball out to end the game, so I reckon they were happier to take the draw.Fat Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:44 am What a bonkers finish. So many chances, yet nothing. Very surprised we didn't look at a droppy. Or at least make they Wallabies think we were looking at it.

I thought it was too wet for a high pressure droppy when it looked like we were making inroads on the try line. Possible pen chance as well. A missed droppy finishes the game.Fat Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:44 am What a bonkers finish. So many chances, yet nothing. Very surprised we didn't look at a droppy. If he scores that and Snecky scores after half time and we are up 20 to 3. How demoralised could that have made the Aussies?Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:43 am Despite most of the AB players having their worst ever games, we would have still won by double digits if we didn't have Rieko Ioane at 13. Let’s not forget the ball hog moment on counter attack where he failed to pass to unmarked player in space to his outside.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:43 am Despite most of the AB players having their worst ever games, we would have still won by double digits if we didn't have Rieko Ioane at 13. Well, apart from a couple of try-saving tackles on Daugunu, putting the idiot Ioane away for a try, bamboozling the Aussies and keeping the ABs in the game during the last few minutes, you could be right. But then it's a very high hurdle.

Fuck me you defend your Chiefs players to the hilt don't you Enz, and when the one guy trying to do something doesn't win it on his own you go off.
Look at your coach and your mixed bag fullback first.

Any of Clarke, Reece or Jordan would have been a big improvement on Barrett, who's there to catch the goal and kick goals, but did neither.Ymx wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:35 amActually yes, Clarke ran well.Gumboot wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:27 amHe had a much better second half than first half, but Clarke was very good when he came on.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:23 am I thought Bridge was our best outside back, and deserves to retain the 11 jersey.

Why wasn't he though? I'm sure he would have been at least as good as J "2 from 5" Baz.Enzedder wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 4:40 amThey were worse than this in the RWC semi.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 4:37 amAnother one of Ian foster's failures.
Reiko Ioane - failure
Damien McKenzie - failure
Jordie Barrett as a winger an goal kicker - failure
This is the worst that the AB's have played in NZ in living memory. Well done Ian Foster, you're the worst All Black coach ever!
And the worst failure of all - the bloody Number 10. It's telling that they wouldn't even let him kick from right out in front.
And I'm sure Beauden Barrett would have been killing it out there at 10 in the Wellington wet, shovelling it on endlessly from 60m out.
dmc is good but he didn't deserve to start with someone like JB on the wing, Dmac is good when he has actual wingers around him, ppl keep forgetting that JB was anonymous in the 2nd half..and when clarke came on, Bridge became anonymous on the right wing as well (not sure why they moved him bridge is NOT a right winger)..some brainfarts in the 2nd half by fozzie
I have just read the write up of Jordie and Rieko’s mid-week Press Conference and a couple of points stood out:
Should have left the Velcro on.Ioane said having played on the wing, he knows what it's like to get stuck with a "greedy centre" so he'll make sure to move the ball on come Sunday.
Barrett won't take any chances though.
"I'll just take the velcro off his hands on Sunday morning," Barrett replied.
Said in jest but I bet Rieko did whinge about it too, he certainly comes across that way.Ioane was fielding questions on how he discussed with All Blacks management his desire to play in the midfield before this season had started, saying he wasn't forceful with his approach before trailing off - Barrett saw that as a chance to seize the moment.
"You've been whinging at me for two years to play at centre," Barrett said.
apart from samu and hooper, i didn't notice anyone do shit...thor was dong well till his injury.. tattslotto was gone after 20mins, didn't even hear his name once..i have no idea who was wearing 1, 3, 5 and 6 for the wobblies. thats how boring they were and folau was shit and should have been taken off 20mins in.
Oh I don’t know but since rugby came back from Covid he hasn’t Captained the Chiefs or the All Blacks (At home against the Wallabies) to one win, not one, nada, zilch, zero. I’m no expert but that is not the kind of record I want from a Captain. But that’s just me.
Not my coach - I loathe him more than you.Jimmy Smallsteps wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:52 amFuck me you defend your Chiefs players to the hilt don't you Enz, and when the one guy trying to do something doesn't win it on his own you go off.

Most of the above was a troll at CC and Mother who started playing the tribal card so I gave them some back. It appeared to have got them riled so maybe they will think all blacks and not Cantablacks in future.

Fair enough, but I think you may be a bit premature in deciding he's not a captain's arsehole. Time will tell.Trapper wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:59 amOh I don’t know but since rugby came back from Covid he hasn’t Captained the Chiefs or the All Blacks (At home against the Wallabies) to one win, not one, nada, zilch, zero. Oh dear Trapper, you've lost your mind. Cane was a fair shout for AB man of the match given his awesome lead from the front performance.
For mine, the trouble with the ABs is that they could not put any phases together nor build momentum. Just a typical first game of the AB season that was almost properly punished. But how many times did the guys actually get 5+ phases rolling off of a set piece? Vs. Ozzies continual well managed recycling?
Cane had a blinder.
I'd have like to see some more route one from the rest of the pack.
Sneaky I thought was a bit off the pace. I think a lot of the disfunction came between him and Richie not clicking, part of that was they were well targeted also. Certain parts of the Oz game was thought out and executed. But the rhythm and spacing of the backline was hit and miss.
Caleb I think needs to start to see how he goes against fresh legs.
Foster's got some serious thinking to do as to how to manage the rush defense.
The Wallabies use of the close game with sniping around the pack is something other teams will have noticed. Nick was very good.

if the Cantablacks were playing, the AB's would have won by 25.Enzedder wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 6:04 amNot my coach - I loathe him more than you.Jimmy Smallsteps wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:52 amFuck me you defend your Chiefs players to the hilt don't you Enz, and when the one guy trying to do something doesn't win it on his own you go off.
