I'm such a coward when my team bats first. Can barely watch. So I go and do something else. As soon as I sit down to have a look we lose a wicket.

Sky suspiciously uninterested in showing us the ball tracking for the second LBW. Looked very high to me.

36 overs for England to face. Could be interesting. Great bowling from the two geriatrics. Combined age of 76 ffs.

Proteas will need some special bowling to keep England under 400

England have passed 400 5 times in their last 49 innings.
England have passed 300 13 times in their last 49 innings.
England have failed to pass 200 23 times in their last 49 innings.

(It is a bit better in their first innings - passed 400 5/25, 300 10/25, failed to make 200 8/25. The median score is 284, modal score is 100-199).

England in a very good position and well on their way to 400.

England have not scored 400 without Root scoring a century in their last 25 matches (in this innings Root made 9).
The lowest score when the 3rd wicket fell & England went on to score 400+ was 131/3 (in this innings England were 34/3).
I mean, they might, but it'd be well outside normal behaviour.
Mockers silliness aside, England should probably be hoping for a lead of 100-150 here.

Bairstow gone, and SA bowling well.
Its unlikely that England will be able to get much of a lead from here as SA are now only a wicket away from England's tail.

Meh - if Stokes gets going you could easily have a 150 - 200 lead by tea time. Foakes isn't a bunny either.

Yep - could get pretty ugly unless the new ball misbehaves.
But the call to bat first.....jeesh.....mental.

Now is the real test for the Protea batters to show real guts. Fighting session per session.

Proteas finally get through a session without losing a wicket . They'll need at least 4 more. 2nd new ball not far away.

Was at Old Trafford for this yesterday. Really enjoyable day with the result never really in doubt.
Nice of the Saffers to collapse in that final session to bring it to an end on the day though.
Sets thing up nicely for the next game, which will hopefully be a tight affair after two blowouts.

Johnny Bairstow out...........for a while
England batter Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the third Test against South Africa and the Twenty20 World Cup after sustaining a possible broken left leg while playing golf on Friday.
The 32-year-old slipped walking to a tee box and will see a specialist to ascertain the extent of the injury.
Bairstow confirmed he will need surgery on his Instagram account.
Always thought golf was a bloody stupid game!!!
