I’ve watched the side on replay; Dean was definitely well out of her crease by the time the bowler entered her delivery stride, never mind when she would have released the ball.

I don’t understand why it happens; I watch the ball leave the bowler’s hands when backing up and can still get several steps down before a call to run or not is made.

Correcting myself again, just watched it again and my recollection is faulty - her bat is in the crease as the bowler plants her foot, but she then leaves before the bowler would have released the ball, so it was tighter than I thought.

I have no issue with a mankad as a concept - when used correctly it is a remedy for someone breaking the spirit of the game (unfairly stealing a run). In this case the bowler has deceived the batter into leaving her crease. She’s entered her delivery stride and so the correct call should have been dead ball. Appalling umpiring

The umpires have to apply the law as it is written:
41.16.1 If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out.
https://www.lords.org/mcc/the-laws-of-c ... nfair-play

In this case they were correct - she leaves the crease just after the bowler enters her delivery stride, and was well out of her crease at the moment the bowler would have released the ball.

I'm sure we've all got opinions on the practice, I'm definitely one in the 'hate it with a passion' camp.
My view is that the law should be updated so it’s allowed so long as the wicket is broken from behind the stumps. In other words the bowler can’t go through their action, hold onto the ball and then turn round and run them out.

All you big country supporters probably thinking the T20 World Cup starts in a few weeks - nope, it starts on Sunday, and the warm up matches are underway.

West Indies beat UAE by 17 runs this morning, and Scotland beat the Netherlands by 18 runs.

First round has two groups of four -

Group A - Namibia, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, UAE
Group B - West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe

Top two in each group go through to the Super 12 starting on the 22nd October.

You may well ask why there are three test sides in one group and only one in the other. I couldn't possibly comment, World Cricket are as we all know a bit of a fuckup all round and generally see giving access to associate teams as an annoyance unless they're from rich middle east countries.

Sri Lanka will amble comfortably through Group A, but second place is up for grabs. Wouldn't like to bet on who will get through. Group B might be a lot tighter - not unrealistic to see the West Indies losing a game (although they might just blast their way to three comfortable wins). Ireland must be favourites for second place but there are plenty of potential upsets there.

Almost a shame Buttler didn't appeal for Wade being out obstructing the field, I would be interested what the umps and TMO thought about it.

I missed this - the future tour programme has been published

https://resources.pulse.icc-cricket.com ... o-2027.pdf

A few observations

- it's obvious that test cricket is being reduced. England only five home tests in 24 and 25, SA only 4 in each of those years, NZ broadly the same, WI not even that much.
- the newest test nations aren't getting any visits from the larger ones to play tests. Only exceptions - NZ one test in Ireland, NZ one test in Afghanistan.
- England will not lower themselves to play a test match in Ireland
- the only teams with test series of more than three matches are England, India and Australia when they play each other
- no mention of any associates after the already scheduled games except 3 T20s for Pakistan v Netherlands in 2024

and on a personal note, a lack of West Indies home test matches in the northern hemisphere winter has snookered my plans of going to watch a full test there (can't be arsed going when England are there, too full of noisy arseholes)
