Interesting history from both coaches whose teams are playing in Saturdays final
SS
Jake White
It didn’t work out for White in Durban though. Although the Sharks won the South African conference for the first time under his guidance, his hard-nosed winning-is-everything pragmatism saw the Sharks employ a conservative playing strategy that did not go down well with the Kings Park faithful. Officially White resigned from that job, but he was really pushed.
At the Sharks he was unpopular with the players because he decided to shake them up by introducing an office type 9-to-5 environment, with the players required to be at the Sharks headquarters even when they weren’t training.
One of those disgruntled players though later told me that while White wasn’t liked, there was no doubt he was a good rugby coach, and that same player later followed him to Montpellier.
Dobson
. It isn’t a secret that the Sharks put out feelers to him before he signed the deal with the Stormers in 2019, and it would have been a good move for him at that time given how bleak the WP outlook was.
Those who know him though will tell you about the passion he has for rugby in the region, something handed down through the gene pool by his late father Paul, a former top referee and much-loved Cape rugby man.
Like White at the Bulls, Dobson’s success at the Stormers hasn’t just come down to the environment he has created, but also to his shrewd contracting. Many would have raised their eyebrows when Dobson announced he was recruiting Manie Libbok to play flyhalf, but he made it clear why Libbok was coming to the Cape - and the player has delivered on that attacking rugby promise.

So, the Stormers should win this with ease.
They have poes klapped the Bulls twice already this season. Their scrum is unstoppable. The forward pack is solid and very hard. Their backline is playing excellent rugby and scoring sexy tries.
And they have 5Bar and Even Roos playing for them.

Weather forecast for the match looking a lot more promising. A bit of morning rain and then partly cloudy afternoon. It looks like it will be a dry and breezy 14 degrees at kick off. This favours the Stormers game but the Bulls team look like a better finals team to me.

The Stormers players and coaches have already reach more then their limit.
The Bulls players and coaching staff sleep at home when playing in Cape Town.
They even got Gert Smal , true WP man that win CC as player and coach for WP.
Compare Dobson with Jake White it's like a comparing a Benz with a Mini.

Dobson
He said loose-forward Deon Fourie, who will play in his 100th game for the Stormers on Saturday, talked to players about the rivalry and the passion of the occasion.
Fourie played in that 2010 final at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Dobson gave away that he’s devoted some time this week to regaling players of the history of this derby, while his forwards coach Rito Hlungwani, he revealed, gave a fervid speech to players.
"It’s great for rugby that we have these rivalries. We must not wash them down as another game and that comes from the players as well.
"Stormers-Bulls, it’s part of our fibre."

Viewing figures in the UK will be interesting. In the absence of a Welsh team I’d still watch Leinster v Glasgow say. I’m afraid I’ve no interest in watching a domestic South African match. One for the connoisseurs maybe.

Fair point. Most Saffas would have felt the same if it was an all Irish or Irish/Scottish affair but there are a fair few Saffas that would have watched non the less. We call them rugby fans.

And so they are, each to their own but I’m guessing most people prefer to watch contests in which they want one team or the other to win.

While I wouldn't necessarily watch a pool match between Zebre and the Dragons.
I'd certainly watch a final between Cardiff and the Scarlets.

It’s been done to death really. I’ll usually watch the FA Cup Final but I’d be far less likely to watch it if say some Italian teams had been shoehorned into it and it ended up as Juventus v Roma. If that makes me less of a fan , however that’s defined, then heigh-ho, I’ll get over it.

I remember as a youngster how I would watch boxing and support "the guy in the blue/red trunks" just because I liked the way he moved or his hair style or whatever. I'm the same with any sport, I can watch a match between two teams I've never heard of before and still end up having a preferred team before the game is done.

I understand that and I dare say that if I did decide to watch the game then I’d end up with a team that I preferred for some random arbitrary reason. The point is I won’t be sitting down to watch it and I was simply wondering whether many others in the UK would feel the same.

Those of us with families have to pick our battles. I'm going to try and watch the game, but if its between this game and a cold front suddenly swooping in then I'll fold for this match, whereas I mightn't for another.

supporter I have to decide whether this is worth a visit to the MIL. I get frustrated streaming and she has DSTV .
That would mean tea, with homemade butter cookies. Comfort food done the old way and some random amazing homemade dessert.
I don't even know what time it's on.
Shocking

Its going to be dry. A little bit of rain in the morning. No problem with drainage because its sand. That's why the turf is not holding together because its so sandy. Not because its wet. Expecting under 3mm tomorrow morning. Its a Netlon reinforced turf with the same rye and fescue grasses as Newlands. It has a very good drainage system with a moat that can handle big rains. All that said its not standing up well. to scrumming. A hard problem to fix though. It was designed for soccer.
edit: I think Newlands is a kikuyu and rye mix. So a much tougher turf.

“So I have that base covered. He will join us at training.”

Finals day arrived. Chill winters day, with not much rain. Have my day all planed out.
After watching last night CC semi final I have a good poaching tip for the rich $hark$ lot. If you want a good 10, poach Zander du Plessis or Whitehead. Zander is an exciting prospect playing 10/12.
Griquas coach do well with a limited budget. The Scots need such a coach.

It's sunny by us. Still in my jarmies watching Avatar the original before the new one comes out. It rained quite solid this morning. I have drained my tanks twice now. Still very wet underfoot and the aquifer running below is is obviously saturated because it's stopped draining quickly

It's been an interesting comp. I was getting really into it, then Covid and cancelled matches knocked my interest, never got back into it as much as before that, and then it's like reading a book and missing a load of chapters and skipping to the end.
Two strong teams in the final. Bulls are/were the team of the tournament from the matches I've seen. When you compare the team sheets though, Stomps look far more experienced and capable in these big matches more of their players have been in the Bok squad, especially in the tight five. The Stomp pack should get enough ascendancy to pressure the Bulls backline from the set piece, much more even at the breakdown/phase play but wouldn't be surprised to see the Stomp pack edge it there.
Stomps to win by about 10.
