Is that an extra dash of salt to not say "to whom"?

In fairness to Biden he’s been much less doddery than I feared but the idea of his being President in his mid/late 80s is madness surely?Hugo wrote: Wed Apr 05, 2023 10:18 pm Robert Kennedy Jr is reportedly going to run against Biden in 2024. True - but not as mad as R Kennedy Jr who is a proper nutjob - up there with Trump.GogLais wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2023 8:18 amIn fairness to Biden he’s been much less doddery than I feared but the idea of his being President in his mid/late 80s is madness surely?Hugo wrote: Wed Apr 05, 2023 10:18 pm Robert Kennedy Jr is reportedly going to run against Biden in 2024. Well ok but it shouldn’t have to be either/or. The Democrats have 50 senators, 200+ in the House and I guess 20+ governors and Biden is the best of them? Not to mention non-politicos. I know it’s hard running against your own President but I’d want a competition, not a coronation.Ovals wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2023 8:51 amTrue - but not as mad as R Kennedy Jr who is a proper nutjob - up there with Trump.GogLais wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2023 8:18 amIn fairness to Biden he’s been much less doddery than I feared but the idea of his being President in his mid/late 80s is madness surely?Hugo wrote: Wed Apr 05, 2023 10:18 pm Robert Kennedy Jr is reportedly going to run against Biden in 2024. I must admit it's hard to gauge to what extent these nomination contests are real competitions and to what extent they are like WWE wrestling. The way that one of the democrats (Buttigieg if I recall correctly) withdrew from the race last time around in order to strengthen Biden's position against Sanders was interesting.GogLais wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:58 amWell ok but it shouldn’t have to be either/or. There were three who protested but the two who got bumped we're black and the one who didn't, well you guessed it.Hugo wrote: Fri Apr 07, 2023 2:46 pm Can't get over the fact two Tennessee representatives were expelled from their Congress due to protesting in favour of gun control. To perotct all of us you must protect the least of us. Fundamental to English / British philosophy of John Locke, Harriet Taylor Miil &. John Stuart Mill, Adam Smith etc and the fundamental of British and American democracy and approach to human rights. Somehow we seem to have forgotten about it as societies.Zig wrote: Sat Apr 08, 2023 1:24 am https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vQKTc2uNk4
I've seen this shit before.
This is what America would be like if everyone was white. These troglodytes would find something else to discriminate about.
Im wondering to what extent it was inevitable. What I mean is that Id assume that most of those who voted in favour depend upon NRA money for campaign finance, or at least don't want to get a negative appraisal from them. That or they need pro 2A votes come election time.EnergiseR2 wrote: Fri Apr 07, 2023 2:48 pmApparently extremely rare too. Its ludicrous. Even the 3rd one who didn’t get bumped said something along the lines of “well I’m a 60 year old white woman and they are young black men”Hugo wrote: Sat Apr 08, 2023 2:06 pmIts ludicrous. In which case, the US can gracefully bow out of all conversations relating to Windsor agreements and the like.Jim Lahey wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 10:11 am I highly doubt the US government give two fucks about NI.
Plenty of US companies have made RoI their home in the last few decades. Relatively stable political environment (until the Shinners get in anyway), part of the EU, educated workforce, English speaking etc.
NI is far too much hassle for them. It might have been more important back in the 90s before most of the FDI went to the south.

It all feels a bit contrived. Which it is, to a great extent, as it's playing to voters in the US with similar perspectives.
Ultimately it's up to him and I'm sure he does actually like having distant Irish heritage, even if he cherry-picks a bit, but I do agree it all looks a bit weird to make such a song and dance about something so long ago.
What I do find truly weird is the constant American political interjections into Northern Ireland - and (perhaps more pertinently) why we even give these the time of day. It was handy having a relatively neutral mediator during the worst of the troubles, but that should be as far as it goes.
I laughed.Hal Jordan wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 12:32 pmAt least he didn't say "black and trans", social media would have destroyed the entire internet by now.Jim Lahey wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 7:00 am Provo Joe confusing the All Blacks with the Brits![]()

Rather the point of the Commonwealth.EnergiseR2 wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 11:56 amPeople feel adrift on the states sometimes. To counter that they often emphasise the origins of their family. It grounds them and gives them a sense of identity. The US involve themselves in the North no more than the UK has in Commonwealth nations. As for giving them the time of day. Please. Just please.inactionman wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 9:59 amvball wrote: Thu Apr 13, 2023 9:21 am So 10/16 of Biden's great great grandparents were Irish. So he deems himself to have Irish roots. You're unlikely to see it, Fox has succeeded in having TV coverage removed because they feared it would ruin the integrity of the trial. Something they're so worried about they've encouraged witnesses to give false representation when being deposed, have failed to hand over evidence, handed over other evidence too late and mislead the judge as to various structural points around the Murdoch business.fishfoodie wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2023 12:46 pm The big news over the weekend was the start of the Fox Vs Dominion case got kicked back a day.
Sounds like the Ozzie cunt is desperate not to go to a jury, & wants to settle. I just hope Dominion don't settle, I want to see him, & all his vile talking heads squirm under cross-examination

I want to see someone do what they've done with trials before, where they get actors to recreate the court proceedings using the actual dialog.
The audio feed isn't exactly useless, but it's not far off. Maybe someone with an Aussie accent will stand out, or someone with a well known voice so you'd have some idea who's talking and thus in what context they're speaking.fishfoodie wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2023 5:57 pmThe audio feed will thankfully be available.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2023 12:53 pmYou're unlikely to see it, Fox has succeeded in having TV coverage removed because they feared it would ruin the integrity of the trial.
