I thought we'd have him for a couple more years. The way it's phrased someone has made him an offer.

Hope McRae gets the opportunity. Always liked him as a coach.
Obviously a falling out or been made a big offer from elsewhere as it is a strange time for him to go? I thought he and his family were settled in Embra and he was here until his kids finished schooling. It will be interesting to see who gets the job next.
Cockers has done a good job with Edinburgh, but I did get the feeling he had taken them as far as he was going to. Next appointment crucial…

Something has definitely gone on. Sutherland leaving was an alarm bell IMO.

Hodge should go too. Mike Blair is the obvious appointment IMO.

The parralells with the Tigers are there. Culture and tone setting only gets so far when the game plan doesn't evolve with it.

RC is a great coach for getting a culture right, but he really needs to widen his game plan to stay relevant in todays rugby IMO.

I thought I'd be disappointed at that but I'm not really arsed. I know it's been a shit year but they've gone backwards so it's probably fair enough.

I’d have liked him to stay for another year or 2 to be honest. The rugby got a bit dire but it’s a tough job the way things are in Scotland.

The rugby was dire, but it relies on your forwards always being on top. With the 4 big Saffer sides coming in the game plan would need to expand and Cockerill has shown over all his HC's gigs he can't/wont do it.

I think Darges move to Glasgow may also have opened some eyes. No game time at Edinburgh then was fantastic for Glasgow. Edinburgh have a lot of young talent who haven't been developed or given opportunities. With the "1s" away for a lot of last year Boyle and Darge should have had far more minutes in the Pro xx, I think they had less that 20min before the rainbow cup pre pre season games. The SRU need Boyle, Muncaster, Shiel, Chamberlain, Currie etc to get be developed so that may have been a slight consideration in dicussions.

Completely agree Big D I think the biggest issue with Cockers has been the tension between results and development. The job isn't purely results like it is in say England and France. Cockers has shown a complete unwillingness to give younger guys a chance because when results as good he sticks with the same formula. When they're bad he sticks with the same formula but shoutier. Not just Darge either Glasgow's season was a total mess and ended with some excitement because of how many young players got a go.

The big concern now for Edinburgh if Blair is the man is forwards coach.

Mallinder is pretty shrewd; Toolis, GG, Nel, Cherry, Haining , Watson, Mata, Pyrgos and Rambo are all key contributors to the Cockerill successful gameplan. But all are 29, 30, 30+ and all on international wages. For the forwards there is an over reliance on these guys and for various reasons (not all RCs doing) there has been little development of the next set of guys; Bradbury, Crosbie, Carmichael, McCallum, Bhatti etc have all come through and stalled or joined and left. The RC style is heavily dependent on key players but those players are getting older and will be around a for a couple more years but we need to be developing the guys to challenge them.

Quite glad that Cockerill has gone, as I was convinced he was terrible for Tigers in the latter years, particularly in terms of the academy development and the style of play, but his early successes at Edinburgh caused a rethink!

I'd have taken him ten times out of ten over Martin Corry in the original squad. Simon Taylor was in that squad as was Gordon Bulloch. Bulloch's name reminds me that Scott Murray was unlucky, he made a tour but no tests.

I can't quite see Mossie as a Lion, he suffered from being our best outside back at the time and got shifted around in order to accommodate inferior players (who to be fair were the best options we had), he never got the chance to make his mark in an international jersey, imo.
Tbf Corry had a blinder on that tour, I don't think White could've done any better.

I definitely believe Cockers is a good coach - if he went to say Worcester he'd do well for a few years the challenge is he does have an expiry date.

For what it's worth I think this year a task master man management style is probably far from ideal. Life sucked for most of us during all the lockdowns etc and it'll have been the same for players. Must've been very uninspiring to come into work and just get shouted at all day.

I think it was previously impossible to cast from the phone to a tv, this was when they sold a cheaper phone-only pass.
It's worth checking before buying.

The quality of stream on a laptop from Now is much better than, say, BT Sport.

All that stuff is probably a lot more tolerable for the players when the team is winning, but with the results this season it might get demoralising.

From searches I think you can cast now but there seems to be a few problems which will give me a heart attack at 4.55 on Saturday.

I've been streaming on the laptop from my sisters SKY account until now, but her idiot husband had an issue with SKY last week and after 10 years cancelled his subscription on Sunday! I'm fine watching on a laptop but might have a couple of mates over on Saturday and it will be a bit shit for that.

Risk it or cancel mates...

Does the TV have an HDMI port? Connect the laptop through that.

NowTV lets you cast from your phone to your telly.

I've done it hundreds of times with a SkySports pass and never had an issue

Laptop with HDMI works equally as good but is more hassle with the cables etc

I suppose having the laptop and cable handy would be a good idea, just in case there are any issues with the casting - Now allows up to 6 devices

You can pick up a roku for around £20, essentially a little USB stick that will let you run most of the subscription services (Now TV, Netflix etc). I use it for Now TV as I have virgin with BT Sport but sky sports is actually cheaper through Now TV and I can cancel on a month's notice.

Plugs into HDMI and just needs USB socket for power (most TVs have one, otherwise just get a standard phone charge lead/socket and power from mains socket, can't recall what fitting is off top of head but the lead is fecking tiny so you'll need another cable), comes with its own remote.

Recall that being a real issue when he was at Leicester.

From what I've seen he's done a decent job, I caught the 1872 derby about 6 years ago with brother-in-law and Edinburgh were dire, since moving up here and having season ticket for a few seasons they've looked in patches a decent team.

Just looking at options right now. Nothing between the day pass and signing up for 3 months. I cancelled Sky Sports 6 months ago, so I think day passes for the tests will be the way to go. It’s typical - as soon as I cancelled the Sports package there was stuff I wanted to watch on it.

You can sign up for a month for about £30 on Now
We did this at my club last week so had Saturdays match plus the 3 tests and of course ant other sport showing

Couldn’t find an option for that - they had £25 for a month, but only if you signed up for 3 months (which will presumably auto-renew at the end unless you stop it, which is how I ended up paying to not watch Sky Sports for years).

I might just buy a day pass every time there’s something I really want to watch, and see how much I’ve spent over a year. I suspect it won’t be enough to justify a subscription.

Wow, Twitter seems to be full of people tonight convinced that Curry is a far better player than Watson, and has shown better form over the tour, and over the last 1-2 years. Er, Watson did win 6N player of the year. I’m hoping this is all protesting too much because they see Watson getting the nod and they don’t like it.

It's much the same over on PR. It's as if they shout enough on the internet they can somehow influence the outcome.

In 2019 Curry was a key piece in the world cup final side to be fair. He's a really fantastic player. It's a tough call between them.

Us Scotland fans not rating Curry because of Watson is the same as England fans not rating Watson because of Curry.

Oh, I’m not saying Curry isn’t a great player, and I think your second statement is correct. What I don’t like is that I suspect the England fans in question also think Curry is automatically superior to Watson because Watson plays for Scotland.

Goes both ways, doesn't it. As soon as England has a poor run of results all our players are written off regardless of previous sustained success beyond most other teams.

If that was the case half the England players on the tour wouldn’t be there.

Fairly sure Twitter isn't part of the selection process!

To be fair, the 6N player of the year is a fan vote after a short list is decided. Which is probably why only one Englishman has won it over the last 18 years.

Very close call. Curry is an example of why I am annoyed we haven't seen more of Boyle and Darge who we know are talents. Not saying they are as talented as he was at a younger age but Curry has been given regular opportunities at club and country since he was 18 and now at 23 he is likely a test Lion (he wont be out the 23). Meanwhile Boyle is 21 and RC didn't want to use him at all during the Proxx season so is sitting with a handful of pro games, mostly from the diddy game at the end of the year.

Anyone read Barclay's piece in the Times? I haven't, because I'm not giving money to Murdoch but apparently he doesn't hold back. If anyone can give us the highlights...
