Can someone explain that mark by Willemse where he immediately called a scrum for? Were they so certain they can get a scrum penalty? Weird decision.
He must have been under coaches orders shirley? A preset call is my guess. It may have been smart. You saw how blown the French tight 5 were in that last ten minute period.

I have to confess I’d actually forgotten you can opt for a scrum off a mark. Can’t recall the last time I’ve seen that…maybe never.

Absolute classic. Must rewatch that match but it seemed like the Boks substitutions swung the pendulum in that second half.

The video I've seen of it, Kobe's legal. Ramos lifts his foot slightly early, which is his mistake, as soon as his foot leaves the ground Kobe's allowed to go. I'd like to see the video that has convinced our other pundits.
I think so too, here is the video. nothing to complain about really
I'm a big Moodie fan, but must admit the Boks midfield played brilliantly today.
Sards will be heart broken.
Why. I have been a Kriel fan from when he started. It's you vokkers that never rated him. And yes I am a huge Moodie fan too. Incredible depth

Well that was an epic performance. To knock out the hosts.
Well done Springboks.
Towards the end Du Pont was completely out of ideas. Just looked really destroyed as a player.
Commossirations the French.
Must be a terrible feeling seeing France as no longer a part of the RWC

Well at least i will get a couple of hours of my life back in 2 weeks, would rather give the garden a final tidy than watch any of those teams in a final.

Nah, England will make the Final just to spite Eddie Jones.

What a game. Oh my god, I can't believe we did it. Especially after the way France played for the first 60 minutes.
Kriel deserves a knighthood for that defensive display. It's the best he's ever played, and he deserves the most credit for that win. Simply phenomenal. They should his performance in the manual for how to do rush defence correctly. He caused absolute havoc.
Best game since 2019 from Kolbe. I was starting to worry he was losing his touch, but that was incredible.
Monster game from Eben. It's like he was born to play world cup knock-out rugby.
Big effort from Kwagga and Fourie off the bench. The two of them were like rabid dogs, tackling like demons.
Hard luck France, you played exceptionally well and it could have easily gone the other way.

Fank fuck we won't have to constantly hear the French national anthem 40 times a game, anymore. Get some gawdamn tunes France. You suck when you sing it during other teams matches btw. Just weird.

Apparently it's common enough in underage games where lifting isn't allowed in lineouts so total lottery.
If that’s the incident that results in that stupid law being stricken from the books, the I’ll be so happy.
What is the point of the chargedown law anyway? And when has it not been contentious when it gets done?
Fucking bin it. It’s stupid. Referees have enough to worry about than trying to police this as well.

Only from your point of view. The charge down can only begin once the kickers starts his movement, crucially in any direction. Ramos merely lifts his right heel whilst setting his start position and makes no attempt to move. 99 times out of a 100 that's getting retaken but O'keefe had shit the bed after 5 minutes.

Every RWC in a 1/4 final there’s a ref that shits the bed: Barnes, Joubert, now Bin.

So why let it happen in the first place. The law is an ass. Why not just let the new fangled shot clock prevail?

I disagree. Ramos lifts his foot bringing it inwards. That's when Kobe takes off and that's Ramos starting his movement setting up his step forward. As you said, it's in any direction. I still think the charge down is good.
Compare that to the way Cruden used to take his kicks which confused a lot of the opposition. He'd rise on both his toes, settle down, and then start his movement - players would charge on the rise... which caught them out because he hadn't started actually moving.

It saved our arses with Cruden's retaken conversion in Dublin in 2013 to preserve our unbeaten run against Ireland for a few more years, but it never sat well with me, tbh.

If I may...
I think the French were hard done by their own crowd. There I said it.
They were so over the top booing and whistling that the referee started over compensating a bit. Plus this:
11.3 A player must not intentionally knock the ball forward with hand or arm. Sanction: Penalty.
11.4 It is not an intentional knock-on if, in the act of trying to catch the ball, the player knocks on provided that there was a reasonable expectation that the player could gain possession.
What other coach would be able to realise that the ball must be knocked forward and probably (foil hat on) asked for a clarification before the match, just to be sure the ref was also aware?

That was probably the loudest and most hostile crowd I've ever seen and heard at a test match.

Bin probably over-compensated a little bit.
I thought Bin was okay, but let down a bit by the assistant refs. The forward pass in the first half, and at least one time in the second half the Boks were offside setting their line were calls the touchie should have made. For the offside, that line's being set behind the ref who's watching the breakdown, that's the assistant ref's job to police. The Kwagga non-penalty was a clever piece of gamesmanship. Kwagga got his left hand on the ball, on the ref's side, and then put his other hand down on the ground beside the ball out of sight of the ref. Easy to be fooled and not sure what the laws state about the TMO otherwise getting involved there.

I think there were multiple offsides missed on both sides. Perhaps it was just the high pace of the game, but officials were very lenient.

Thats what I like about BIN. He let the game flow more which means there can be a lot of misses if you want to be technical. Hope we get him again against England.

I hope there are no refs from the SF countries involved in the SFs. Raynal and Gardner please.

Any news on injuries?
I was a bit worried to see Kolisi off so early.
He was playing well below his normal standard, he certainly needed to be hooked. I remember blinking in surprise watching him watch a ruck, when normally he's flying in there like a cannonball blasting everything and everybody off the ball.

He injured his voice shouting from the side-lines in the last 10 mins. NEVER seen him so animated before. Leadership.

It is horrifically open to interpretation. I'm trying to remember which kicker starts by virtually running on the spot for a couple of seconds, by your interpretation he should be getting charged down every kick. I think as others have said it's a bullshit rule and the kicker should just be left to get on with the kick with in allotted time.
