And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
Although Molinari was ahead of Casey in the rankings

We don't need to. They guy was the form player in Europe at the time. Had won the Scottish Open a few weeks earlier and the last qualifying tournament, he was reigning World Cup champion when it was still a big thing and as I said in the worlds top 20. Just because his career tailed off doesn't mean he didn't deserve his spot.
Also, Molinari was considered the correct pick and it was Poulter than was the controversial pick over Casey as he hadn't yet earned his Postman reputation. Plus Molinari played pretty well in a winning team.
Anyone got info on how the course is being set up? My worry is that as a new course it looks like an American golf course and the Yanks will feel quite at home there. I want tighter fairways, deeper rough and greens that are not too fast. We need to stop the yanks do the 'bomb and gouge' approach and make them think a bit more on the tee.
I would imagine what you have suggested will be exactly how it will be set up, much like in Paris.dpedin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 8:48 am Anyone got info on how the course is being set up? Yep, set it up like the kind of course they cry about when they go home. Like Carnoustie.dpedin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 8:48 am Anyone got info on how the course is being set up? Just back from early morning round at Kilspindie - glorious weather and good golf! Tide was out and the seals were basking on the sandbanks taking in the early morning sun, the sky was blue and temperatures were back to near seasonal normal which was a relief. Course was in glorious condition and very playable. After a decent round of 76 for me we sat outside and had a nice lunch of Cullen Skink whilst watching various groups of Americans tee off from the first thinking they had died and gone to golfing heaven. We all felt very lucky indeed!

"On 11 July 2010, Molinari won his first European Tour tournament, claiming the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond by three strokes over Darren Clarke.[17] Francesco Molinari played alongside his brother and Clarke in the final threesome. Following Franceso's win in the 2006 Italian Open, Edoardo's victory in Scotland made the pair the third brothers to win on the European Tour after Seve and Manuel Ballesteros and Antonio and Germán Garrido.[18]
On 29 August 2010, Molinari won his second European Tour title, the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, by one stroke from Australian Brett Rumford, after birdieing the final three holes. Molinari's brother Francesco once again was paired with the eventual champion in the final round.[19] Shortly afterwards, European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie named Molinari as one of his three "wild card" selections for the 2010 matches at Celtic Manor in Wales, along with Pádraig Harrington and Luke Donald.[20] Molinari's brother Francesco also earned a place on the European team through the points list. The Molinaris were the first brothers to compete together in a Ryder Cup side since Bernard and Geoffrey Hunt played for the Great Britain and Ireland side in 1963.[21]
Molinari's successful 2010 campaign saw him rise to a career-high of fourteenth in the Official World Golf Ranking.[22] Molinari finished the 2010 season ranked 11th on the Race to Dubai, formerly known as the European Tour Order of Merit. He finished the year ranked 18th in the world.
"
Eduardo Molinari was more than worth his pick and wasn't controversial at all
My bad didn’t check the old results thought you meant Francesco. However Casey was no8 in the world and had won the world Matchplay it was a bizarre decision based on one result to me and a massive error. Remains to be said EM didn’t win a match either. There were political reasons afoot : have a Google. Monty was furious at Faldo and his picks previously it was well documented.

It looked ominous after Europe went 0-4 on the first morning.
Got it to 8-8 at the start of the singles.
It's swayed one and them back 5-6 times today after USA went 3 up early.
Georgia Hall's 3 put from 15 ft started the heebee jeebees for Europe.
Europe retain with 14-14

Mate, you’re struggling here. Casey has never won the World Matchplay. Ian Poulter won it in 2010. Casey didn’t win a tournament in 2010, Edoardo won the Scottish Open and the Johnnie Walker at Gleneagles - both tournaments in similar conditions, and similar styles to Celtic Manor. Whilst it was a close decision, it could have gone either way and to pretend it was in some way outrageous is wrong. Harrington was the far more controversial pick, he hadn’t won in 2010 or 2009.TedMaul wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 4:09 pm My bad didn’t check the old results thought you meant Francesco. The Solheim has been brilliant viewing for over a decade now. Often closer and more nail biting than the Ryder Cup. Superb efforts from Hedwall and Ciganda.Insane_Homer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 3:21 pmIt looked ominous after Europe went 0-4 on the first morning.

Casey is the biggest onmission I remember but he knew the rules and didn't qualify leaving it up to personal opinion/politics of the captain/European Tour. Works for some captains but not others (Clarke for example).TedMaul wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 7:03 pmDisliked or otherwise you’re World #8 and get a futile replacement sorry.Big D wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 6:33 pmCasey was deeply disliked by other players back then IIRC.TedMaul wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 4:09 pm My bad didn’t check the old results thought you meant Francesco. I have little sympathy for Meronk this year. He has won tournaments this year but compared to the captains picks he was behind them on recent form. He and MacIntrye were in a shoot out IMO. MacIntyre held on and Meronk did little.
Got a Taylormade fitting today and they were very nice indeed and they look like the dogs bollocks. I have however been fitted with the most expensive options possible - but what the fuck, I'm worth it!Deveron Boy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 6:47 pmI have set from 2 years ago. Hogan Apex still a beautifully forged head. I play with Hakusa blades take a look https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/ ... -169529735 they’re pretty exquisite
Ah, I see the confusion - I'm looking at the World Golf Championships Matchplay and you're looking at the HSBC World Matchplay. WGHC is an event that counts towards both PGA and European Tour and the HSBC was a European Tour event only.TedMaul wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 6:59 pmHe won it in 2006Biffer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 3:27 pmMate, you’re struggling here. So, yes, Casey won the HSBC in 2006, four years prior to that Ryder Cup. So not really that relevant to picks for Celtic Manor.
Regardless, the controversial pick was Harrington, not Molinari, and Edoardo had won more than Casey that year.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
Yes Harrington was the controversial pick, but come on. Edoardo Molinari you can have all day any day and I will take Casey see how we get on from that day on. I will give you an unlimited start it was a joke.Biffer wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:30 amAh, I see the confusion - I'm looking at the World Golf Championships Matchplay and you're looking at the HSBC World Matchplay. "However, many of the statements are not about Reed. Some statements are about LIV Golf, of which Reed is a member, but not specifically about Reed," added Corrigan.
"Others are matters of opinion or permissible rhetorical hyperbole.
"Still others are statements of fact, the truth of which are not challenged. And Reed does not meet the required pleading of actual malice to hold the press liable for defamation."
