I mean it’s great to win but it seems like an awful lot of money for that many races and then it gets parked up in a museum. Or will they bring them out for some kind of race series in the future, I hope so, I fecking love them.
That would be my main complaint of the whole gig - Simply not enough racing. They could do well to extend the prada cup, or somehow have the home team involved that doesn't skew results. Just more action all round.
This 'round' of the AC was a bit of an anomaly. There was meant to be a series in the Med last year, and I think another one in NZ before the Xmas regatta. All called off coz of COVID. But I believe both INEOS and LRPP agree to use the same boats for next event. So existing 4 race boats will be sold to help new teams get involved. I think there were meant to be 8 or 10 teams in NZ, but cost and lack of time with new design put them off. So hopefully this will help them get up to speed quickly.

I am completely 'wowed' by them. I had raced those same waters for years but never seen a spectacle like this out there. I'm old but loving the new tech.

But maybe longer races and wider courses? Would loved to have seen a few races in higher winds too... but that can't be predicted...

Yes, agreed. I am of the same opinion. At least 8 legs. But course width takes away from local (spectator fleet) viewing, and also in AKL the size of the harbour. I agree it would be good, but I can at least see why that doesn't happen. In the old days in Freemantle and SD, there was no course boundary. They would sail out to wherever and back if they wanted. Imagine that now - 45 knots - coming thru.

They could start them out at Great Barrier and have them zig zagging past the Islands finishing as close to the viaduct as possible...

I know you're kidding, but could you imagine them in 2m swells. Cape Colville is as rough as it gets in the area. Would be utter carnage.

Sounds like Death Race on water! Mount a harpoon on the front Waterworld style and let em rip. I’d watch it.

I'm glad they aren't trying to race in Wellington today. Distinct lack of wind up here in J'Ville

This is a tight one.

Thought NZ would have done a full 180 there around the mark to stay left

Bigger lead now after LR bad rounding of mark. Tiny bit of breathing space.

Long way to go

Interesting NZ allowing split to give LR freedom on left hand side which I thought was faster

Any clues as to CoR?

Is that Dalton on board NZ boat? Thought he would be hiding on boat with UK being allowed only to board.

That was pretty convincing in the end. Te Rehutai and crew were just to slick for Jimmy and the boys. That was fun, the last couple of days I was on the edge of my seat, really exciting I thought. Congrats to both teams on putting on a show!👏👏👏

Tough afternoon. Conflicted between watching the yachting and perving at the grandsons swim coach.

Who won the yachting?

Pretty worthwhile racing in the end. LR definitely let them off the hook in dropping a couple races they should have had bagged. Hard to say but if the scoreline was looking 5-5 that might have had ETNZ teetering on doubt and a lot more nervy than they were letting on. That last race clinched it for Pete, just nailed the clutch race and smashed it.

LR pretty hard to beat and should be smoking through the next cup.

Tighter eligibility rules

NZ Govt on board provided the defence is in NZ
