With 23 laps still to go that Ferrari would have been little more than a moderately quick chicane.
Sad to see the end of the Williams era. Amazing that no-one with any real championship prospects could take advantage of LH’s penalty. Great drive back to points.
Best news of the day for me was how good McLaren looked. I wonder how Carlos is feeling about moving on to Ferrari

For sure once the McLarens caught up to him they would have passed him easily, but I don't think he'd have dropped off as badly as Kimi didKawazaki wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:43 amsturginho wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:31 amLeClerc was theoretically in 3rd place after the safety car! Indeed. I like Carlos and Lando as a team. McLaren seems like a fun place to be for those two.sturginho wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 8:07 amWhen he said "I want this win Tom" over the radio I thought he was probably thinking to himself he wont get another chance next yearUn Pilier wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 7:54 am Sad to see the end of the Williams era. As a kid I was an enormous Nigel Mansell fan, I always felt like Hunt didn't like Mansell and that he was positively joyful when Mansell crashed or retired.
Why do you say that? Flamboyant, yes. Adrenaline junkie, yes. Rebel - ask Max Mosley. He was very popular amongst many of his contemporaries and very good mates with the likes of Niki Lauda and Jodi Scheckter. He gave a lot of talented drivers a leg up. He was certainly outspoken and didn’t suffer gladly people he considered to be fools. Lived hard, died young, but a prick?

Looks like Vettel found his next gig !

I guess Seb figures driving last years Merc, against this years; is a better deal than this years FerrariSergio Perez will leave Racing Point at the end of the season, paving the way for four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel to join from Ferrari.
Vettel's arrival has not been confirmed but it is known that Racing Point, which will become Aston Martin in 2021, have offered him a contract.
Perez, 30, had previously insisted he was not leaving, pointing out that he had a contract running until 2022.
"It hurts a bit as I bet on the team during very rough times," Perez said.
The Mexican played a key role in preventing the team going out of business when it was known as Force India in 2018.

Madness.
I don't think Seb will do a better job than Sergio. He's been prone to far to many mistakes over the last 3 years and they can't all be attributed to the skittish nature of the Ferrari.
I really hope Sergio finds another drive, he deserves it but it's now a bun fight between himself, Hulkenberg and F2/F3 prospects.
as for Stroll, well um, obviously a daddy decision that's not surprising, but he did himself no favours on Sunday by blowing a golden opportunity to get the race win.

What options does Sergio have? In theory he'd make a great partner for Max, but Red Bull are probably going to swap Gasly and Albon round. This leaves him with Haas and Alfa Romeo?Insane_Homer wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 9:50 am Madness.

Seems to be an increasing thing - teams demand loyalty from drivers, but don't show any in return. This is a particularly bad case given how Perez effectively saved the team just a couple of seasons ago.
In other news I see Ferrari are racing in retro burgundy to reflect their 1000th race in F1. Presumably they're hoping for some retro levels of perfomance, which would be a step up from where they have been this season

They might do better to celebrate by racing in a replica of their first F1 car; it couldn't do any worse than their current model.Saint wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:52 pm Seems to be an increasing thing - teams demand loyalty from drivers, but don't show any in return. That's true for any company, I've seem it enough in my time. They're all loyalty, big family, we're it it together until it's not then it's statutory this and contract that.... if you want loyalty, get a dog.

at least with that body they might be able to jam a 2nd engine in there, & that might get them up to a 2019 level of performanceLobby wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 3:16 pmThey might do better to celebrate by racing in a replica of their first F1 car; it couldn't do any worse than their current model.Saint wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:52 pm Seems to be an increasing thing - teams demand loyalty from drivers, but don't show any in return. In this case the company has new owners. So any loyalty is out the window already. My preference would be that Stroll Snr was sensitive to what had gone down.Insane_Homer wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 3:17 pmThat's true for any company, I've seem it enough in my time. Sensitive? Did you see his press conference after the other teams accused them of tracing?Mr Bungle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 5:56 pmIn this case the company has new owners. It does. Loved some of the drivers punching each other in the trailer.
Jenson Button did quite a thoughtful interview on this is in The Times today, I’ll try and post it

That’s carnage. Back of the pack decided the race was on and ploughed in to the slower cars at the front.

And Hamilton takes the lead at the restart. Only a question now of which of the tracing points will take third.
