I bowled 6 overs (5 on the trot!) about a month ago for Mahoney's friends+family team and I can assure everyone that actually trying to bowl pace in your 40s when you've not bowled in anger for >20 years is not good on the body. Jesus Christ. My arm still hurts. I think I broke something.
I got carried away at a family beach cricket mess around in Oz over Christmas. Did one (1) bowl running in at “pace” for a laugh and hurt my knee, ankle and arm
I could barely walk the day after and was still feeling various strains and pains 2 weeks on.
Still keen to do it more regularly, though. Would also like to face more than 5 balls and not bat like a complete muppet but I am English so it comes with the territory
Bowling uses odd muscles in a bizarre way. 15 overs in the heat has me limping around like I’m twice my age that evening. In many ways the only value for a club player of winter nets is getting the worst of the pain out the way outside of a game.
Good to hear you’re thinking of getting back into it - there’s no shortage of clubs that will bite your hand off, it really is a bug once you start

News from the Cricket World Cup Qualifier - looking likely the World Cup will not have a West Indies team participating. Lost to Zimbabwe a couple of days ago.
Super Six teams are decided - Sri Lanka, Scotland Oman, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Netherlands. Games carry forward from the pool stage as usual, and the West indies lost to Zimbabwe (who look pretty good actually). Fairly certain at this point it will be Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe that qualify.

Zim end up on 408/6. Sean William 174 off 101 balls. Ryan Burl was one hit away from equalling the fastest fifty in ODIs but was out for 47 from his 16th ball.
Today's other game has West Indies 374/6 from their 50. Pooran 104 from 65 balls.

Last two games of the pool stage tomorrow - Scotland v Sri Lanka and Ireland v UAE. Scotland and Sri Lanka both already in the Super 6, so this game counts as points in that stage. Ireland v UAE is for pride only. Ireland's full member status looks a bit of a nonsense given they've come out in 17th position at best in qualification for the World Cup.

There has been some tremendous cricket in this tournament so far, hopefully more to come.
Oman chasing down Ireland's 281, Zimbabwe chasing 315 in just over 40 overs against the Netherlands, Scotland's last ball win against Ireland, and this game today. Makes an absolute mockery of the ICC decision to limit the world cup to ten teams. Thankfully this year's tournament is the last one in that format.

Amazing match. Stupidly, I didn't know there would be a Super Over either so switched it off thinking it had finished as a tie. Fortunately did manage to catch up on the super over pyrotechnics through some dodgy Indian website.
While it's true the Dutch were missing 8 players, they wouldn't all have played as there are a number of fast bowlers among them. By my estimate, that team had 4-5 batsmen (incl. the keeper) and 2 bowlers that would have played had the team been full-strength. So 4-5 changes to the XI would have been made.
Scotland v Sri Lanka today. SL looking like the best team in the competition by a distance, but Scotland are in a good place - hope they can pull a result out of the bag. In a perfect world, the ICC's ludicrous elitism would come back to haunt them by Sco and NL qualifying for the WC at the expense of SL, WI.

That's a tough run of games to get 3 wins out of, especially because Zim have looked good (although heavily reliant on Sikander Raza).

Decent start by Scotland, Karunaratne and Mendis out cheaply - Mendis scoring 1 run off 16 balls. RR under control for now, although Nisanka is going at a run a ball.

Report into discrimination in English cricket is out, and thus far few surprises. Even Colin Graves accepts there’s racism in cricket so no shocks at their findings.
As for their conclusions, a mixed bag of very sensible and pie in the sky stuff. ‘Revive black cricket’ isn’t a recommendation any more than ‘England should win the world cup’. Equal pay for men and women in the pro game seems unachievable without either torching the men’s game or cutting other programmes significantly to subsidise the women’s game.

There seems to be a confusion in some quarters about what sports people are; they aren't labourers being paid for their work, they are entertainers. How much an entertainer gets paid depends on how many people are prepared to pay how much to watch them.
Hoping Bairstow has a better time of it behind the stumps.
So they don't expect the pitch to be any help to a spinner then!

Some great work by Scotland so far. Sri Lanka 224/8 in the 44th over.
Sri Lanka were 199/4 after 39, and must have been eyeing 300+ but 3 wickets in two overs from Greaves and Watt has put them in the mire.

Just heard a woman on the radio had something to do with the report, describe English cricket as Institutionally racist and riddled with inequalities because of its over reliance on Public Schools.
Cindy Butts, the Chair of the committee looking into this. I worked with her last year on a project. She's outspoken but fair, and not one given to hyperbole. So for her to use the strong words she has, it must be absolutely grim.
