Well, shit. 60/4 in the 13th. Bugger.
West Indies are, to all intents and purposes, already out. Don't see Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe losing all three games to let them catch up. Scotland and the Netherlands need to hope they can beat the first placed team from the other group, and that the first placed team beats them too (i.e. we need to beat Zim and hope Sri Lanka do too).clydecloggie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 1:16 pm And that's that.
TBF, I don't think anyone is beating Sri Lanka in these qualifiers.
Now Scotland must beat the three teams from the other group - if they do, they qualify, but all 3 will be difficult; perhaps only the Windies might be easy if they're already out by the time Scotland plays them. But both Zim and NL will be seeing the Scotland match as a must win and both will be full of confidence given their campaigns so far.
That there’s racism and that your chances are greatly improved by going to public school are facts of life, so it would have been a shock if cricket was somehow exempt from them.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:30 amCindy Butts, the Chair of the committee looking into this. Even Colin Graves accepts there’s racism in cricket so no shocks at their findings.
As for their conclusions, a mixed bag of very sensible and pie in the sky stuff. ‘Revive black cricket’ isn’t a recommendation any more than ‘England should win the world cup’. Equal pay for men and women in the pro game seems unachievable without either torching the men’s game or cutting other programmes significantly to subsidise the women’s game.
Given the number of organisations, institutions, sports, arts etc that are considered, rightly to have some inherent racism in their activities, is it not about time we acknowledged it's actually society at large that is inherently racist? Pointing at different organisations only helps people say 'it's them, not me' and stick their heads in the sand.Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:19 pmThat there’s racism and that your chances are greatly improved by going to public school are facts of life, so it would have been a shock if cricket was somehow exempt from them.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:30 amCindy Butts, the Chair of the committee looking into this. Similarly, I was asked a while back why cricket seems to have such a problem with racism and the simpler answer I gave and stand by is that it is the only traditional British team sport where c.30% of participants are south asian, the majority of those being Muslim. Again, poor integration with the Muslim community is a societal issue, the only reason you don’t get this in rugby is that there are almost no Muslims playing rugby.
With all that said, and I’ve already been very clear there’s a lot wrong in cricket, ‘rotten’ and institutionally racist just does not describe the diverse club and league structure I am a part of and I know I’m far from alone in thinking that (and yes I’m a white male etc but it is not just white males who think this). In fairness to the report and a lot of the testimony an awful lot has changed in the last 10-15 years.
I don’t see a way round the public school issue. Cricket is a technical sport and so the quality and quantity of coaching and facilities will have an oversized impact on your improvement and later ability. Do whatever you like (and there is a lot that can be improved, don’t get me wrong) but wealthier kids will always have a leg up.
I’ve pretty clearly acknowledged there’s plenty of racism in cricket. I don’t think the game is rotten to the coreBiffer wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 8:35 amGiven the number of organisations, institutions, sports, arts etc that are considered, rightly to have some inherent racism in their activities, is it not about time we acknowledged it's actually society at large that is inherently racist? Sorry, that's not what I meant. I meant as a whole we should be addressing this as a problem of racism across society, as that's what leads to all these organisations having racist elements / behaviours / whatever we want to describe them as.Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 9:02 amI’ve pretty clearly acknowledged there’s plenty of racism in cricket. That's what they want to happen. Deal with them quietly and calmly, as was done today.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 10:26 am Just Stop Oil retards need to get tazed and OC sparayed. The other option of course, is not to chuck them out of the ground. Just return them to their seats to face the music.
Not the ball to leave.Thor Sedan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 12:02 pm You can thank me for that wicket England - I clicked on to cricinfo and the first scoreboard update was the wicket.
You are very welcome.
Some delivery that. Unplayable.
No don't think we will be that merciful.....

I have checked cricinfo 3 times today - first time Khawaja went first refresh, second time Labuschagne went out on the first refresh - and now Head and Green went.
I may be a god.
