Duckett made 98, not sure he's the best example here

He's the only one they sent out to talk to Sky...

Doesn't matter what he scored though... it's what he said...

He batted ok until Australia started bowling bouncers because they had tried everything else... and three players got suckered in... Root especially should have known better.

As should have the cheating cunt Mike Atherton. At least Australia punished Smith accordingly. Looking at the state of your country it's no surprise England didn't have the balls to do the same.....

Not sure Duckett was the best example 'cause he was trying to playing the ball down, but you could include for it being a cross bat shot with multiple catchers out on the boundary and he needs to clip it off the hip take a single and get off strike.

Fair play to him whatever for fronting up to the media having fallen 2 short at Lords in an Ashes match, plenty would have been having a sulk refusing to talk to anyone

Wasn't just that one shot though... he has an inability to leave a ball alone... which is incredible really. To deliberately not leave a ball in test cricket takes quite a skill...

But again, even if Duckett is not a good example... it's what he said that is important., not what he did...

fuck yer ashes - Sri Lanka are 35/4 after 8 against the Netherlands in their CWC qualifier. If this continues, it opens the door for both NL and Scotland to take one of the qualifying spots and give a two-fingered salute to the ICC.

England lost the first test because they dropped catches. They dropped Warner on 20 in the first session of this match.

Catches win matches.

He did top edge plenty of stuff, including balls that weren't that short. It just seemed like a technical flaw rather than falling into a trap.

Duckett and Brook both hit (many of) their hook shots in the air when they should keep them down. If they don't fix this flaw, they'll struggle at this level.

A stat came up that he only leaves 8% of the time. By contrast, Crawley leaves it 28% of the time, and he's held up as a profligate snaffler of balls he should have left alone.

I know openers are likely to have to get bat on ball a lot, but Duckett simply can't resist it.

What he's saying is informed by the fact he's averaging something like 60 odd of recent times, that yesterday he scored 98, and he's part of a side winning a lot of games and a side that don't dwell on negatives nor what might have been. They've lost 2 in plenty, and even the great sides lose matches so...

I don't in all ways love their current approach, I'd like them to temper their batting just a little, but I can see why they'd be positive about where they were at close of play yesterday and why they'd have some bewilderment about why others aren't positive about what they're doing

Sri Lanka bowled out for 213 by the Netherlands this morning in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

Batting line up starting to look a little flaky. Their bowling has been consistently good through the tournament though.

Last six wickets gone for 46 runs.

From 188/1 to 325 all out is really not good whatever style you're playing.

Although I have to point out again that dropped catches are as, if not more important - dropped Warner on 20, might have kept Aus to 350 ish if that had been taken.

Dropped catches and poor shot selection is the issue...

They tried to bat sensibly today... and lost 5 wickets for 47 runs... which tells you it doesn't matter if they bat fast or slow... the bad shots will still be there...

Looks like some rain about this afternoon though not likely to be disruptive and cause more than a minor break in play. One thing about these high scoring rates is that time left to play comes ever less into the equation, I'm sure that a draw is very unlikely

Sri Lanka have reduced NL to 186/9.

Tenth wicket partnership needs to deliver another 28 runs, but Edwards is established on 65 not out. A couple of meaty smacks and it could be squeaky bum time for Sri Lanka

All out for 192. SL get the wins in the last couple of games but have looked increasingly shaky. See what happens v WI and Zim.

Scotland v West Indies in Zimbabwe today. West Indies are pretty much out of the tournament already, but will not want to lose to another associate. Scotland need a win to give themselves an outside chance.

WestIndies currently 16/2 off four overs. Not the best start.

Pooran and Hope in now, if Scotland can break this partnership quickly we could skittle them.

Slick, WI cricket has been hollowed out over the years by a combination of bad administrators and the dominance of US sports, particularly basketball, in the Caribbean. Fifty years ago if you were six foot four and athletic you would have been straight into pace bowling. Nowadays they go to basketball.

What’s the implications for qualification for this?

On WI cricket, I wonder whether this should be considered more a reversion to mean. Scotland’s playing numbers are probably to an extent comparable and the resources of a first world country (with one of the game’s powerhouses a few hours drive from Edinburgh) was bound to result in a better side once they professionalised a bit

Nah, cricket is still one of the most popular sports in the West Indies, and they have more professional players than Australia or New Zealand. Cricket Scotland does not have resources - total turnover of cricket Scotland is about £2.4 million to run all aspects of the game from the grassroots up to international level. Cricket West Indies has a turnover ten times that, and then there are other cricket revenues not going directly to the board.

And if you’re talking about the mean of WI cricket then I don’t know what to say other than pish.
