Law question- Farrell tackle
I would say the Aussie clowns, certainly not Farrell's brief. I mean the Aussie barrister you could imagine would be able to twist all sorts of things around in his own mind as that's part of his job, but the two former internationals are the real spineless jessies.

And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

That is fucking delusional. The post-match disciplinary system has worked and now I wish good luck to Owen moving forwards.
The thing I didn’t like about the incident at Twickenham was the way all the opposition players threw their hands in the air as soon to appeal. It happens all the time now, as soon as someone goes anywhere near the head. It’s like soccer, calling for red cards. Sorry, that’s not rugby for me. Let the referees do their job.
I could not agree more. I mean, FFS. I want whatever he is drinking.
Going into the World Cup, whoever manages to keep 15 players on the pitch will have a huge advantage. New Zealand are favourites for the tournament

Well that's a cunt of a post.
No. Whatever you think about something, never try to arrange a pile on. That's just shitty behaviour.

I fucking hate deliberate erasure of context. It's not just one poorly timed tackle is it, Kev? It's the latest in a long line of them stretching back years and you know that. Why is there no such similar furore about George Ford ever? Because he doesn't keep tackling players high (and inexplicably getting away with it...).
I know they can't exactly sit there in front of the press and go "Yeah, I can't believe he got away with it either *smirk*", but you can play a straight bat without sounding like a prick.
This actually makes me more angry than the tackle because it's this sort of thinking that's leading to these decisions. "I'll parrot the line that everyone says which makes it seem like I care about player safety BUT in reality, I really do enjoy seeing people knock the shit out of each other more than I give a hoot about how it affects their health.""Of course player safety is paramount but rugby is a collision sport"
It's attitudes like this toward the cards, toward safer tackling trials, the bloodlust that makes me want to quit my involvement with the sport, but also spurs me to get MORE involved to support and enforce the changes needed.
When you log on to the WR website, say to renew a qualification, take a course or whatever, at every given opportunity Rugby is defined as an evasion sport, never, ever, ever is it called a collision sport. So what's the conclusion:Niegs wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 12:56 amThis actually makes me more angry than the tackle because it's this sort of thinking that's leading to these decisions. a) that wording is part of some piss weak attempt by WR to cover ass what with the law suits coming?
b) senior international coaches etc have a completely different perception and definition of the sport than the governing body?

Rugby really is the equivelent of paying a homeless person to hit themself on the head with a hammer.
"Yeah but, but its a contact sport"!!!!
Like the "homeless hammer to the head championships"...Rugby players have to put their heads in places a head has absolutely no right to be.
We now know this, we now know the consequences of this. CTE, Early Onset, Motor Neurons.
Is your 80 minutes of "not a lot of entertainment" a week worth a Ryan Jones?
We should all be weaning ourselves off it, or going cold turkey.

Or keep watching, keep enjoying, and signal to the powers that be they've a lot more work to do, to take brain trauma seriously and to clean up such as is possible in a contact sport that's often now a collision sport the tackle, and very importantly the ruck

So, no I won't take it down because it's publicly available information of the most visible. Not rooted for in any way.
And of course it's a real person. You think Farrell was represented by a ghost?
{EDIT} ASMO removed it anyway. Nonetheless it's as freely available as anything can be on the net.

There is no way to clean it up. They might get the 100, thousand micro concussions Alix Popham suffered down to about 90 thousand, but the brain is impacting the inside of the skull etc.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 6:58 am Or keep watching, keep enjoying, and signal to the powers that be they've a lot more work to do, to take brain trauma seriously and to clean up such as is possible in a contact sport that's often now a collision sport the tackle, and very importantly the ruck
" His consultant asked him to make a rough count of the tackles, carries and clean-outs he made in every game and training session. “He thinks minimum I’ve had over 100,000 sub-concussions. Minimum. And that’s just my professional career. I started playing when I was four.” One of his neurologists explained it like this: “Every contact causes a little bit of damage to your brain. Look at it like a leaking tap. If it drips once or twice on a piece of mud there’d be no mark, but if it drips for 14 years there would be a lot of damage. And there is a lot of damage showing on my scans.”

sub-concussions are a thing sure, but the outcome is varied. so we need to determine what our red flags would be and for some people that'll mean stepping back from contact sports. but a lot of people like contact sports, to watch and to play, and we probably don't need to worry you'll pry it from our cold dead hands as you'll have already topped yourself in despair

Pile ons directed at his legal representation though take it to a new level. Well done

It's a bit Occam's razor. Three globally known (Fagerson not so much but he is a Lion) players get very lenient bans that coincidentally mean they're available for the world cup.Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 9:22 pmI don’t but that it’s some conspiracy to get top players to the WC to be honest. There is simply no other explanation when they're taken together.

Wait until a red card during a crucial WC match for a similar or lesser tackle kills the contest and sends a side home, the cherry being that it will involve an Eng opponent.

I actually agree with that point - Biggar in particular is making a cottage industry of histrionically appealing to the ref and it needs to stop.Gumboot wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 11:24 pmThat is fucking delusional. The post-match disciplinary system has worked and now I wish good luck to Owen moving forwards.

There’s clearly an effort to ensure that Tier 1 sides have their full squads available to them, this time it’s also combined with Super Rugby’s more liberal interpretation of shouldering someone’s head. Rugby has always been a contact sport. It has only become a collision sport over the last 20 years.
Removing rucking from the game is a big part of the problem, but likewise the tucked arm shoulder charge is just so fucking ubiquitous! They don't all lead to head contact, but they are almost always ignored unless they do.
I know plenty of people think the current round of lawsuits have very little legal merit and don't threaten the game. But if we continue to show contempt for player welfare then that certainly wont be true for the next round of lawsuits. Irrespective of all of that, player participation numbers seem to be down across the grass roots. I've heard people complain that clubs that used to put out 3 or 4 sides every weekends are struggling to put out their firsts. Little Jimmy isn't allowed to play rugby because its just too fucking dangerous - and its hard to argue against that point at the moment.
The game is facing an existential crisis and the cunts in charge are asleep at the wheel!

Biggar's a gobby whinger a la Nic White and Willie le Roux, but in this instance it was "all the opposition players" reacting in a perfectly understandable, spontaneous way to seeing their teammate flattened by a recidivist thug. How Edwards believes that's more excessive than Farrell's assault is beyond me. But hey, it's a contact sport...inactionman wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 8:13 amI actually agree with that point - Biggar in particular is making a cottage industry of histrionically appealing to the ref and it needs to stop.Gumboot wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 11:24 pmThat is fucking delusional. The post-match disciplinary system has worked and now I wish good luck to Owen moving forwards.

But why is that focus on the perpetrators? Why should World Rugby not be making sure that the victims of these collisions are available for the World Cup. It seems so counterintuitive. Why allow someone with a dangerous tackle technique to continue to be dangerous on the pitch, potentially ruling other players out through injury?Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 8:27 amThere’s clearly an effort to ensure that Tier 1 sides have their full squads available to them, this time it’s also combined with Super Rugby’s more liberal interpretation of shouldering someone’s head. Surely its better to lose one player through their own poor actions than it is to potentially lose multiple other players through being the victim of a high shot?

We are not fighting a war, running away in defeat, we are giving up a sport because the human impact is far far far too great for its meagre entertainment value.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 7:30 amah, the we're doomed so might as well give up now perspective.Line6 HXFX wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 7:16 amThere is no way to clean it up. I don't care if I never see a scrum or lineout for the rest of my life.
I don't care if I never see a ruck or maul for the rest of my life.
So thats like 3/4 of the sport of Rugby I could do without watching.
What's so great about the rest of it, that we are accepting of such human sacrifice?

I find I'm noticing - and getting irritated - by the histrionics more and more, but I also have no idea how Edwards sees that as a greater offence than Farrell sconing someone.Gumboot wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 8:40 amBiggar's a gobby whinger a la Nic White and Willie le Roux, but in this instance it was "all the opposition players" reacting in a perfectly understandable, spontaneous way to seeing their teammate flattened by a recidivist thug.
