I'm sorry, can you share some evidence that this is a fact please.
It is my understanding that he isn't a dummy and actually did quite well at school academically.
He wasn't on track to become a Bok and played in the B-teams at u14 and u15 level, so had to focus on academics as well.
It was only after a growth spurt at 16 that he started making the 1st teams and then got lucky with at Bulls contract in 2020 at 18. There were hardly any matches played that years because of Covid.

He had dreams of being a Bok, but also prepared to go the Varsity Cup backup route if things didn't work out first time round...which they fortunately did.

You can also tell from his interviews and the way he talks. He's obviously a shy and introverted kid, but he's always been mature and smart that is also reflecting in his rugby. Another player that was like that was Pat Lambie.

An exciting prospect on attack for sure, but unproven in adopting the Boks' Nienaber defence system.
The read by the 13 is critical for it to work.
I know it's still early but Jurenzo Julius is very talented Speed to burn for 13.
Yes. He is also only my radar. I was very disappointed when I learned we had lost him to the Sharks.
Not sure how smart he is and if he will be able to excel in the Rassie setup, but he is a freak of an athlete for sure.

Apparently against Portugal Moerat had the most knock ons and missed tackles and made no metres.

Regarding the Fassi selection over Willie: read that interview summary of rassie on sa rugby mag and wanted to share. Great read, good insight in how open and healthy things are at the boks. But some pressure on Fassi, hope he strives and has a good outing.

„We are all waiting for Aphelele to do it now,” Erasmus said. “That’s what we’ve told him the whole of last week, ‘do it now, it’s on you! Go and show the people what you can do and why you’re here’.

“Unfortunately with everything, there’s first the real hard graft in a game, before you get to do the beautiful things. So he’s needed to get his technique under the high ball right, not lifting that leg, he’s got that out of his system. Understanding the wings, organising, he’s getting the ropes with that.

Now I think it’s his time to shine. It’s not easy to shine against New Zealand. But that certainly where you know, ‘am I ready yet or not?’.”

Perhaps even more surprising is that Le Roux, the old warhorse of the Bok backline, will play no part in Saturday’s Test.

The two-time World Cup winner has been the go-to fullback in Damian Willemse’s injury-enforced absence, but being left out of the matchday-23 entirely is a sign that a succession plan is now being implemented.

“Willie is somebody who I’ve coached since my Stormers days,” Erasmus said. “He’s at a time in his career where he accepts what his role is in the team.

“He helps the guys to understand how big the Test match is, how we are going to handle this, how you are going to read that flyhalf and when do you have to cover what space. He and Aphelele are close.

“We want to get him to his 100th game. He’s at 96 now. I think he will play another two years. I don’t think he will make another World Cup. If he does, it will be like Stephan Donald. His role in the team now is to help youngsters and when he plays to help us win.”

Very interesting insight. Fassi has really worked hard on his game, I'm so pleased for him to make the cut against for the biggest derby game in the world.

But Rassie's comments also will put him under pressure. I hope he has a good game.

I feel the same. He has had the best runway possible to ease him into top flight test rugby. Some easy games to calm the nerves and some tougher games to check his ego. Now comes the real test. Very few players get such a nurturing introduction.

It's time for him to silence his critics, me included, once and for all.

His catching has really improved. If he can diffuse the first few kicks, then the All Blacks will have to attack differently.

I have total faith in Rassie. Whoever get selected I'll support. Hope Fassi, SMZ, BJD have big matches. If we lost, we will never know if we dont try players. He still have the tried and tested as backup.

Also good to see he released some players to play CC this weekend. Manie Libbok, Canan Moodie, Makazole Mapimpi and Steven Kitshoff

Ja true. It's not a train smash if we lose, but giving youngsters like these chaps experience in such a game is priceless.

I think we are done discussing Manie at 10 for the Springboks

My boy Sascha is our future. Also love Saschas passion.
He wants to be a winner. No worries about where the lads head is.
Fassi put in a great session. There is no doubt when they kick on him. Ironically he got carded for great defense. he knows how to rip a team apart on attack

I still think Sasha still has too many errors, probably from trying a bit too much. But I agree, he is a phenomenal talent and I'd have no objections to him being groomed for the next world cup.

But I hope he also gets the 10 jersey at the Stormers, and they don't mess around trying to play him at 15.

Rassie had nothing but praise for Sascha and Fassi for their debut test against the ABs. I think we all know that we normally go safe against the ABs. So this is really unusual for Rassi to throw inexperienced players in against the ABs.

Veery pleased we got the W for their sakes.....

I see no praise for the Stomps for my man Sascha and Fassi , who they have already thrown shade over , especially Sandstorm.

We cannot give these guys experience unless we play them. They will only improve under Rassis guidance.
And I agree completely re Sascha. For awhile there was an obsession with backline playes that could cover 3 positions but be master of none....I prefer more specialist players that can cover 2 positions. And Sascha is our man going forward...and then other youngsters . Manie cannot be in the equation....he missed 4 kicks in a row on saturday for WP........The youngster Mathee had to take over to get WP the win.

Sascha's kicking out of hand killed the All Blacks. DMac and BB wont match him. Rassie will try to play safe in Cape Town, expect Willie and Pollard to start and SMZ on the bench. I would not mind if he decide on Fassie & SMZ. They had good test brings that X factor we need. Also AE and AM in midfield.
