What are the rules about holidays and travel into tier 4?
You can get international flights but not internal flights
Although lots of countries are now moving to stop travel from the UK.
Essential business trips where the wife and kids happen to be on the board of Bob's Roofing Co.
But you can get international flights. Not sure how you could check if it was for business or pleasure if you were clever/devious with your bookingBimbowomxn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 5:42 pm
Nope, you cannot travel out of tier 4 for leisure so you cannot go on holidays.
If you were a real cynic you’d notice the 2 council districts not in tier 4 in Essex are the ones containing Stansted airport and Harwich docks ......

I know 2 families that got internal flights out of Heathrow this morning. They flew down last night...
How on earth is Stansted in tier 3 when Bishops Stortford is in 4Bimbowomxn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 5:42 pm

European lorry drivers might be stuck in England for 48 hours and can’t get home. Fast forward to January and will the same drivers be happy to come over and get delayed again on the way out?
Nuke us!!!The Druid wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:51 pm Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium are all halting flights and travel.
France has suspended all travel links including freight with the UK for 48 hours from midnight. It said the period should be used to provide a coordinated European response.
You're allowed to travel from lower tiers to ports/airports even for non-critical travel. So Tier 1/2/3 can get a flight out of Heathrow or get a train/ferry to France - they're supposed to use personal judgement, but it's entirely up to you.
Please. Just make it a big one.Sandstorm wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:52 pmNuke us!!!The Druid wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:51 pm Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium are all halting flights and travel.

Or will they say “Fuck it, I’ll do the Portuguese or Italian run instead!”
No more German bratwurst!
But how does someone from Swindon (Tier 3) going to Miami Beach get to their flight at Heathrow in Tier 4?Saint wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:55 pm

Tier 4 cannot travel unless for business critical reasons, end of.

You're explicitly allowed to travel into Tier 4 to reach a port, wheather Heathrow, Dover, or Folkestone. If for non- work then you are asked to consider if you really should, but it's your discretion.Sandstorm wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 8:21 pmBut how does someone from Swindon (Tier 3) going to Miami Beach get to their flight at Heathrow in Tier 4?Saint wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 7:55 pm

But that just leaves it up to the individual and how determined/selfish they are to be somewhere else for Xmas.Saint wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 8:35 pmYou're explicitly allowed to travel into Tier 4 to reach a port, wheather Heathrow, Dover, or Folkestone. Folkestone had trouble today with cars - not just freight. Reason being that they had cops on the border checking where people has travelled from - if from Tier 4 they were turned around, which slowed up everything apparently

Yeah, “fuck business”
Forty new cases today may become 120 new cases by Christmas Day. Half of them will have no symptoms and the rest will have mild symptoms so will carry on as normal. The peak infectiousness of this virus is very early in the infection, before symptoms appear, making Christmas Day a ticking time bomb.
People infected today and tomorrow may travel half-way across Sydney for the family Christmas lunch and maybe to another household for dinner, possibly infecting a minimum of 360 new people. The 360 people infected on Christmas Day will be at their peak infectiousness on New Year’s Eve, and could infect more than 1000 others. We could be looking at 3000 cases by January 8. You could not plan a disaster more perfectly if you tried.
The combination of silent infections, exponential growth and the calamitous timing of New Year’s Eve being within one incubation period of Christmas Day is a tinder-box. Unlike most outbreaks, we can predict the exact dates of super-spreading – December 25 and 31 – two days of massive cross-city movement and gatherings. This is far more serious than the Crossroads Hotel outbreak because of the timing.
The localised lockdown of the northern beaches may or may not work. Growing clusters in the rest of Sydney or other states may not be apparent for another week or two. Wastewater surveillance will provide early warnings of emerging hotspots.
The idea of “living with a bit of COVID-19” and soldiering on is a falsehood because of exponential growth of epidemic infections. The health system is the weak link – it is the first part of society to break during pandemics. When hospital and ICU beds are full, health workers dead, ill or quarantined, all other medical care becomes compromised. Even in the Ruby Princess-related outbreak in Tasmania, more than 1000 health workers were quarantined, forcing a hospital shutdown.
Every city that has laboured under the misapprehension that they can carry on with a bit of community transmission has been forced into lockdown when the health system collapsed.

What a tremendously odd thing to say. Health systems haven’t collapsed anywhere.
I assume the timing of the announcement was so that the Tory MPs could scuttle back to their constituencies before the lockdown; & avoid looking the hypocritical cunts; as usual.....Sandstorm wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 9:14 pmBut that just leaves it up to the individual and how determined/selfish they are to be somewhere else for Xmas.Saint wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 8:35 pmYou're explicitly allowed to travel into Tier 4 to reach a port, wheather Heathrow, Dover, or Folkestone. Once again the Govt is hoping each person will do the right thing and we know how that works out.
The guidance is full of “for example” and “you should consider it carefully”
