Its cricket on a rugby forum. You will probably all over the place if the Wallabies beat the Boks this weekend?
Not really mate. Don't think you can read to much into this year's RC. Too much tinkering going on ahead of the World Cup...

By the way Oom would like to apologise for my previous poaccusation regarding AWB. Sorry.
No worries Boet. Can take it on the chin and move on. Good luck for saturday.
Cheers Oom  Good luck yourself. Hope it's a cracker

I am not sure I understand the rumoured moves within the team that England are allegedly planning to make.

Pope, Tongue and Anderson out for Woakes, Wood and Ali with Brook moved to 3.

Firstly, Brook is the least experienced batsman England have, hasn't batted at 3 very often and doesn't really have the technique for it based on what we've seen over the series.

Tongue was pretty decent and Woakes hasn't played a 4 day game since early May.

They are clearly worried about the batting yet will not call up Foakes who has averaged a respectable 39 in the "Bazball" era and will save runs by his keeping being better than JB.

Woakes, Wood and Ali in for Pope, Anderson and Tongue. So Brook at 3 and Stokes at 5. Pleased to see Wood there, but not sure of Brook up the order, and with Stokes hardly able to run the lower middle order is a worry

If they left Bairstow out at his home ground, the Tykes would burn Headingly to the ground!

Never any question of leaving Bairstow out

With Pope injured some of us were calling for Foakes to come in at 7, with Root, Brook, Stokes & Bairstow sharing 3-6 between them in whatever order.

I’m not surprised he didn’t recognise the Bledisloe. Most Australians have never seen it.

Tongue probably has fitness concerns, he's not known for durability.

Agree on Brook and Foakes. The latter is clearly never going to get back in barring injury to Bairstow at this point because of how stubborn these guys are when their method is questioned, and Crawley's success this series hammers the nail into that particular coffin.

Woakes is our best option to replace a faltering Jimmy. Ali probably should be Liam Dawson but heyho.

So when do we start questioning the English Spirit of the Game when they won't allow the touring team any options at the toss? Disgusting really.

Letting Broad bowl at Warner also seems dreadfully unfair given the predictability of the result.

I would love to see England just once field Wood, Stone and Archer in the same attack. Would be some sight. Injuries of course will never allow this. All able to hit that speed range.

Netherlands will need to score faster than usual so might bring it's own pressure.

Edit - They need to knock it off in 44 or 45 overs depending how far past (1-6 runs) they go past the total by.

So Scotland need the win to qualify - Dutch need to win but chase down in 44 overs to qualify?

Edit - beat me to it D - so yes - that makes things a little more interesting.

This idea of "not within the spirit of the game" died with proffesional sport, its simple really, if you dont want it to happen, make a law against it, otherwise suck it up.
Cricket is weird in the way it picks and chooses what is sporting. The sledging wouldn't be tolerated in any other sport. Not even football.
Every sport has weird lines between what is and isn’t acceptable.
Off the top of my head:
Football - acceptable to get in the ref’s face and tell him to fuck off, unacceptable to play on if someone is down injured (rugby vice versa of course)
Rugby - acceptable to pantomime boo until the ref gives a card, unacceptable to boo the kicker, and let’s not forget traditionally acceptable to stamp/fight in a way that could grievously injure someone, so long as you didn’t gouge.
American football - acceptable to hit a player in a manner that can cause brain injury, unacceptable to ‘run up the score’.
Tennis - acceptable to deliberately exaggerate ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ after playing a shot, unacceptable for the crowd to make a sound.

I could go on.

What makes cricket’s different is that the Spirit of the Game, far from an abstract concept, is incorporated into the Laws of the Game in the preamble. Like any preamble, the Laws should be interpreted with that in mind.
I don't think we can conflate audience behaviour and that of the sporting participants and that would render some of your examples out of bounds. Anyway
1) Football. No, it's not. And anyone doing so that blatantly would be sent off. I do agree on the down injured thing which is some bizarre effort by footballers to feign some degree of morality.
2) Rugby. That's an audience thing and certainly does not apply in France and so can't be considered global regardless. Stamping was legal. It was permitted under the ruck laws. Hard to see how it wasn't sporting if it was in the laws. You might as well say a hard tackle is unsporting.
3) Yankball. On the brain injury bit: same thing as rucking. I don't know what "run up the score" means!
4) Tennis. Audience again.
