Lots of stuff going on in F1

Turns out that Lance Stroll did have the rona, finally testing positive on Sunday evening after the GP. Lots of questions being asked of FI about timelines and why Stroll didn't get tested earlier in the week. He's since tested negative, but needs another negative test before he can re-enter the F1 bubble. Hulk is in Portugal on standby

In other news Haas have seen the light and are dropping Grosjean and Magnusson. Feel a bit for Magnusson, but Grosjean has been living on borrowed time for a long while now. Lots of names in the mix to replace them, and it's expected that at least one driver will need to bring serious cash with them - so Perez is definitely in the frame, but so are a number of F2 drivers including Mazepin. And of course, Mick Schumacher is currently linked to any free Ferrari seat that's going, although it seems more likely that he'll be replacing Giovinazzi at Alfa Romeo.

Mercedes have stopped ALL dev on this years car - 100% of effort now on next year's version, as despite the delayed major rules changes there's some aero changes to consider and they need to remove DAS

The Australian government have provisionally confirmed that they will allow the Melbourne GP to start next year's season in mid-March, with fans in attendance. Not sure what the limits to that could be re second/third wave

And finally Portimao testing starts tomorrow. Very wide, fast, track, should provide lots of overtake opportunities. So naturally it's on at the same time as the Baa-Baas.....

Lots of chatter than it will be Mick and Mazepin at Haas.

But then Joe Saward is stating that Perez will partner Latifi in the Williams, with no change at Alpha.

Nothing like a team binning both drivers to spice up the rumour mill

And agree that the race clashing with the Baa Baas is a pain. Might have to dual screen

The trouble for Haas is that they're going to need at least 1 solid, proven driver to help them get the 2022 car ready. Having two F2 youngsters, particulary when one of them is as unstable as Mazepin has been to date is a recipe for disaster - especially when Perez and Hulk are available as options, and Perez does bring cash.

Have no idea what to make of Williams - if they replace Russell now after denying him a possible Mercedes move earlier in the season (I know under different management) they're going to lose a lot of fans

I wonder if George Russell is wondering whether Frank and Claire were already in talks to sell when they said no to Mercedes?

Just reading the stuff about Stroll on the Beeb; the team acted like complete shits; & the FIA aren't doing a damn thing. Pathetic.

both Haas drivers announce they've left the team. No real suprise there. Maybe Schumacher gets one of those seats?

lots of permutations with Hulk & Checko in the mix.

Russell now around looking for another drive. Williams (under Claire) being adamant they'd hold him to his contract, now seemly under new management not as keen to keep him. madness on their part. I'd understand if he'd lost out to a paid drive when they were struggling but that shouldn't be the case under the new investors.

Today’s practice hasn’t told us much. I’m looking forward to seeing F1 cars race Portimao. It’s good for bikes and may host an entertaining race.

I used to like the old Estoril track - I have played golf pretty adjacent a few times on track days; V8s play hell with my short game

Well....... the fresh surface isn't giving up much grip at the moment, and it's fair to say that some drivers are struggling a bit with the the elevation changes and blind corners. I'm assuming they're going to get it together after the test drivers have spent a night in the sims with today's data.

Quite. It’s unlike most modern F1 tracks and might host an entertaining race. The elevation changes and crests will certainly offer a challenge, I’d say it’s more F2 than F1 but I’m looking forward to seeing if it works for a GP.

I think the only reason we think in those terms because we've got used to thinking like that.

Liberty and the FIA are studying this and Mugello closely to see what can be learnt fir future track designs and modifications to existing tracks

Nah, Armco.

That separates those who can place the car precisely from those who can't.

Need two tyres on the black stuff and be done with it. Cars are steaming way out wide at speed on some corners and it’s all getting a bit silly.
