Incredible that she's so popular and thought of so highly in the Tory Party. She's a weapons-grade idiot who seems to think that cosplaying as Margaret Thatcher actually makes her Margaret Thatcher.

Found Leadsom's tweet this morning quite disturbing. Suggesting Nick Robinson on R4 is clearly a fan of Arthur Scargill (suggested one of his heroes in fact) despises Thatcher and that this is evidence of BBC bias.
The same Nick Robinson who was chair of Oxford University Conservative Association.
chair of the national Young Conservatives too, and founded a Young Conservatives branch local to him, Macclesfield
what he will like about Scargill is the fame attached to the name and how it bolsters the numbers hearing his story on the back of it. he may even admire some of Scargill's determination. as many will note, no chance he's actually a fan of Scargill's politics though (unless he's undergone a recent, profound and secret rewriting of his own political bent)

After a shit Churchill tribute act with a toddler's hair cut a Maggie thatcher cosplayer makes sense. The Tory membership love that shit. Corbyn was the perfect left wing tribute to the early 80s. Doesn't work so well with Starmer.

The most depressing part of the cosplay it that it's all they have. No ideas of their own so live off the ideas of others.

To be fair, he did exactly the same thing with the EU representative last year. But it wasn't so widely reported.
Though Liz Truss is quite a vacuous MP. Besides some vague Thatcher tributes what does she offer?

Felt first hand the Boris effect last night. A party political broadcast from the Scottish Conservatives…. It was cringy in itself, but even if they were making some really good points about our useless government, I didn’t actually hear a thing, i was just staring incredulously at the screen laughing and feeling embarrassed for them.
Literally nothing they could have said could have made anyone look worse than they are at the moment, why bother.

They'd probably have been better off using the time to show a cutsy cat video.
At least it wouldn't have cost them any points in the polls

Some thanks Cressida gets for diving in front of the partygate scandal only for a Labour mayor to force her out.
She had to go though. In the last two weeks two pretty clear examples of sexism in the met came out only a few months after they tried to convince us the rapey murdering pc was a one off bad apple. Root and branch change needed in the police, again.
Although considering she got the job after the Jean Charles de Menezes shooting it doesn't inspire hope in the replacement.

Yes, it seems to have come to mean the opposite of the original saying.
Perhaps "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" is more appropriate now.

More minor shittery - Tory Dorset MP demands money not be spent on reintroducing eagles to Dorset (they were introduced on IoW) and questions spending police resources on investigations into said eagles turning up dead. One in Dorset. Allegedly on a shooting estate...
Two days before tweeted to demand book be thrown at the cat kicker.

It depends:
If you are someone trying to get a message across it's a very quick and effective way of getting something out there. Also comedians/authors etc can reach a v wide audience pretty quickly.
As a source of breaking news it's v useful as well. There are also some wonderfully interesting threads from people with really niche interests- one the other day on when the Mediterranean sea dried out was fascinating.
As someone who mostly just pans through it, you've got to be careful how you curate your feed. At it's best it's entertaining, funny and informative. At it's worst it a horrible hellish cesspit. Much like everywhere really nowadays

Twitter's the one bit of social media I use. Rarely to post anything, but as you say, It's great for up to the minute news/info.
Also some great threads on pretty much any topic that interests you.
I don't get into arguments on Twitter, so It's no stress. Life's to short to argue with Bimbo clones and bots (of which there are thousands from each end of the political spectrum)

Boris Johnson has received a questionnaire from the Metropolitan Police as part of the inquiry into parties at Downing Street and Whitehall during the Covid lockdowns.
No 10 confirmed that the prime minister had been contacted by the police and said he would "respond as required".
The questionnaire has the same status as information given in an interview under caution.

Looking forward to the toad's reaction to this "provocation", another chance to distract the electorate by sending a couple of frigates and claim this is no time for filling in silly questionnaires...?
Chagos Islands: Mauritian flag raised on British-controlled islands
The Mauritian flag has been raised for the first time on the Chagos Islands, an Indian Ocean archipelago controlled by Britain but claimed by Mauritius. Mauritian PM Pravind Jugnauth described it as an "historic moment", saying it was time for the UK to cede control. The event was the culmination of a trip to the islands organised by the Mauritian government.
The Foreign Office said the UK had "no doubt" as to its "sovereignty over the British Indian Ocean Territory".
The ceremony, led by the Mauritian ambassador to the UN, took place on the atoll of Peros Banhos, where a pre-recorded message from Mr Jugnauth was played. A flag was also raised on Salomon, a separate atoll.
Three UN bodies have ruled that the archipelago - more than 5,000 miles away from the UK - is part of Britain's old empire and should be handed to Mauritius.

The problem is that the UK chucked out the indigenous people, so that they could hand over the main island to the US, on a long lease; & Diego Garcia is now a critical military installation for them, & is one of very few overseas locations, where the US Stores nuclear weapons.

There would be a certain symmetry to that.
In 1956, the UK & France refused to admit the loss of Empire, & launched an idiotic & criminal military effort against Egypt; & in so doing, distracted the US, & the rest of the world, from the brutal Russian suppression of Hungary. All presided over by a preening, privileged failure of a Tory Leader, who thought attending Eton, & Oxford meant he could do no wrong.

If that's the sum total of what you think Anthony Eden was I'd suggest you pick up a history book. A giant of a man who ought to have become PM earlier and was left in an unfortunate situation.
